Collection in Lockdown

Some simple ideas don't work. My daughter's car is registered in Staffs. but spends most of her time in London, so she's always away 100+ miles away. She'd be pulled just for driving to do essential shopping

I'm sure it would work in 90% of cases which would give Police a higher degree of accuracy than they have now and furthermore people would be more fearful of being stopped if many miles away from home, so fewer people would risk it.
I'm sure in your daughters case she would be able to carry some form of Utilty Bill/ID etc that would show her local address and quickly justify her being 100 miles away from the vehicles registered address.

Driving licence should legally hold the London address. As that’s the address that is predominantly used. Not updating is an offence.

Cops will either check the insurance (via registration) or driving licence. Both of which should be the London address, so I agree they will be able to see “how far from home” the car is.

As said, the rules are open to abuse. That's why it isn't a lockdown and I hate the fact people keep calling it that.

I observed the distancing rules at all times. Myself and the seller maintained a respectable distance. To be honest, there was more chance of me catching something whilst doing essential household shopping than there was going to collect a car on my own.

At least I wasn't preaching to stay at home and then taking my family to a second home for the weekend so, y'know.....

It makes me laugh when people say you shouldn't drive for non essentials, incase you break down/have an accident, yet no one minds cyclists or runners, who could quite easily injure themselves.

I’d probably agree with that too. Assuming the seller has no reason to enter the car. It could have been left for a few days to ensure that all traces of virus have died. Then all you have to do is clean the keys.

We’re super cautious shopping. But when you get home? What then? You can’t clean all your shopping with anti bacterial soap!

My nan does :lol: she's a fruitloop. I just put it away and hope for the best. If you lived your life in that much fear, you'd become a hermit and live in a bunker :lol:

You generally need an ambulance, or Police attendance, when you sprain an ankle or have a flat tyre; you generally just work home.

It's more amusing to see the obese, the smokers, the lazy etc. talk about the lack of NHS funding, when they're draining 50% of the overall budget through entirely self-inflicted activities. We need more runners and cyclists, we wouldn't be the nation of fat fucks that we've become if we did.

Regarding the original question, my thoughts would be:

- Is it an essential journey? Probably not, but if you genuinely need a car then perhaps.
- Can you collect it without potentially spreading infection? Realistically, yes.
- Is it any more dangerous then getting it (legally) delivered to you by a third party? No. If anything it's safer as fewer people involved.
- Are you taking the p***? Not really. It's only 40 miles away.
- Are you likely to get caught? Probably not. Especially if you travel during rush hour.
- Are you good at blagging your case if you do get stopped? Only you know the answer to that.
- Can you afford a £30 fine? I hope so if you're buying a new car.
- Can you complain if you do get stopped and fined? Not really.

I certainly wouldn't get too excited about you doing it.

Exactly, I don't see the issue.

What I do see is that if you shout at someone, to patronise your opinion upon them, they're unlikely to listen; so you can tell someone "I don't agree", but it's ultimately there decision and so to lambast them endlessly is pointless and doesn't, in any way, bring them around to your point of view.

He's asked for some opinions, had them, and now it's up to him to decide without people continually twisting his melons!

Perhaps arrange to meet half way ? Then you're only 30 mins from home ??

What the Police/Govt have said about travelling to beauty spots etc and the exercise must be longer than the journey is just so vague and open to abuse. I dont know why they didnt just say that you can travel to an exercise location, but it must be no more than X miles from your registered address. ( eg 10 miles) That way it would be easy for them to Reg check the car without even stopping you and know how far from home you are.

Which works to a point, however my 'daily' is a lease and registered to a company based in Leeds, so when its parked up at home its a lot more than 10 miles from its registered address regardless.
