Hi All,

Great forum you have here!

I am collecting my Z4 Coupe (2007) on Friday (pics will follow :P ) , and have a few questions I am struggling to get the answers for.

First - it comes with the bluetooth kit, and standard head unit - are there any headunits out there that I can get that will work with the bluetooth/steering controls?

Second - It does not come with Sat Nav, but I would love to get it added, however the main dealer pricing seems very high! Does anyone offer this service, and how do I know what items on ebay to search for to get all the parts I need.

Thanks!

Hi

with regard to the headunit there are options out there but may involve using a parrot kit which will work with steering wheel controls making the OEM redundant.

SatNav can be retrofitted for around £600 via ebay sourcing screen £100 , DVD drive £300, GPS £20, Headunit £120 (hardest part to find), and loom £60 from main delaer. I have fitted mine and PVR has done 2 from memory.

Try the stereo, my mate has a 07 coupe and the stereo is VERY good indeed! he does have the Satnav system though but don't think its the HK unit. My 53 Roadster has the 'business' stereo but even this I find excellent to be honest. Depends what your used to or what you want I guess.

After martet ones always look RUBBISH as they require a tatty adaptor and such.

Not if you get the right facia they dont, and unless you have the standard 6 speaker system its a real pain to upgrade the headunit as the 10 speaker systems use there own bmw amp which requries a digital signal.
Although good, the standard 6 speaker system is lacking in my opinion so i'm going for a full upgrade which already includes massive bass and i'll most likely be upgrading the speakers once ive tried out how the stock speakers work once ive fitted the alpine Imprint processor.

Thanks for all the replies!

So when searching ebay, any tips for keywords? Also, from reading up on here, am I right in thinking that the monitor/computer/headunit does not necesscerely have to be from a Z4?

Un1eash - love the look of the Alpine unit! Does that work with the bluetooth and steering controls?

That alpine does look nice....and do I see red lights to match my dash lights? MMMM, how much does that run?

Its the 9886R and cost around £200, it was meant for my mk1 mr2 but a month later after buying it i got the zed and now the mr2 is sat on the front lawn. Wish i had gone for the 9887R (£350) as it has the imprint processor built in which i'm getting next week for another £140.

I believe you can use the connects2 CTSBM005 adapter to make use of the steering wheel controls with aftermarket headunits but dont think theres anything that works with the bluetooth.

It can light up all blue or all red or mixed like the above image.

Sorry but I think that looks rubbish. Standard is just more classy.

Just try the standard one and see how you feel about it, you might be suprised. I find I have tons of base from those units behuind the seats, evena t 80mph with the roof down.

I might be able to stick with the standard one, it does play MP3's afterall. Can you fit a changer to it? I know it is an option, but it is not installed on my Z.

When is the correct fascia turning up for yours then, as that one obviously doesn't fit properly :poke: :P

In what way?

Its far from rubbish but thanks for the constructive feedback, i was reluctant to take the stock headunit out but compared to the standard 6 speaker system sound wise the standard system is rubbish and if you want to upgrade and get decent sound the only way is to replace it with an aftermarket headunit.
