Collected new Z4 on Saturday

I am still getting used to the various settings in iDrive and so on, but it's been an interesting transition to the Z4 from a GT86...

Nice colour is mineral grey.

What are your thoughts on the Z4 compared to a GT86? I tested a new 86 before is decided on a zed, thought it was quite fun. Interior comfort isn't as good as my BMW though, and obviously the 35iS has more power than a GT86.

What made you change?

The 86 is very raw and 'race' focused, whereas the Z4 is more refined - perhaps a little more grand tourer than the 86, if that makes sense. The engine on the 86 has to be worked very hard since it is normally aspirated and that could get somewhat wearing on occasions. I agree with your thoughts about the comfort and certainly the build quality is nowhere near as good as the Z4. That having been said, the seating position in the 86 is well nigh perfect.

My 86 was, I believe the first in Essex and so was nearing four years old - time for a change then and after looking around decided the Z4 was the choice; not very scientific, but I'm very pleased so far. I decided on the 20i, which is faster than the 86, but I tend to use my bike for a fast burn and really that knocks most cars into the background!

To conclude on the 86 though...great fun, very practical and I thoroughly enjoyed owning it - hopefully will be able to say the same about the Z4 in three years time.

Interesting, similar to my thoughts when comparing the two. The GT86 does have the impressive ability to make you feel like you're going quickly, sat in a car that's meant to go quickly, without actually going all that quickly. I think the "poorer" build will probably have something to do with that, I imagine there's not much in the way of noise deadening.

No need for a scientific choice :P With a bike (crazy, crazy person) you'll have the speed sorted, so probably won't be found wanting the higher output engines from the Z4. Not sure I can find anything wrong with the seating in my car, however :P

Still, hope you enjoy your Z4 ownership! 6 weeks in and I know I still am!
