Cold weather roof opening.

Hi All,

Just wanted to start a discussion regarding opening the roof in cold weather.
I am a staunch advocate of 'no rain roof off'.
However I remember that in the owners manual of my last ragtop convertible, an Audi on a 61 plate, it stated not to open the roof in low temperatures as the waterproof lining, neoprene/silicon could crack as its flexibility is reduced.
So my thoughts wandered to the insulation on the cables that flex when opening our hard tops, do you think that cracking of the insulation is likely at low temps, any electricians on here with an answer???

Very intrested in answers here.
I went to view a 35i two weeks back and EVERY seal on the car was cracked with top coatings coming off .
The windscreen one was even split.

We are going for breakfast this morning and the roof will be down. The passenger heated seat will definitely be on full chat though

Tried this product but to be honest I am not that impressed with it. I recently applied a very thin silicone seal lubricant to my seals, all my squeaks from the roof are gone! It comes in a tiny aerosol from B&Q for push fit waste pipe!

It was like it had been cleaned with something the seals did'nt like
Maybe it had been left in the sun with the roof off for long periods of time over its life and not gagraged at all. We all know UV damages pretty much everything from paint to rubber.

There was some discussion on this thread below about how cold you can go, and I think the quoted number in the booklet is -10C.

I used it proactively. That said, I don't know if it works, because I had no squeaks.

Still don't, though.

same here Buster just seems like the seals look and feel the same before and after! Who knows what’s in the pot!

My Indy recommends Vaseline, seems to do a great job on both my Zed and 3 series convertible, ensures a good seal too
