must be nearly panto season so...."oh no they're not" still a bloody rip off even if prices have come down a bit.
back on topic, i'm desperately trying to get distaff to do the school run with the zed instead of the evoque (2.2 diesel with a very expensive dpf) as it's under a mile each way and it's currently doing 17 to the gallon

Traffic is my major problem,which kills your MPG figures...

On a clear run to work i can achieve 26mpg being very light footed and the traffic signals are with me..

Down to 19 MPG when busy with traffic...

Todays bad news lol. So traffic was a bit worse than normal and todays temp just under 5c. The short journey, slow speed is one factor, the dropping temps quite another. My car has an official urban figure of 22mpg

Out of curiosity I've tried the other half's IQ on this trip and I get around 40mpg. This is a car that has an urban figure of 54mpg. So both the journey type and temps are kicking the hell out of either cars mpg figures.

I think while you can't do much about the temp, the start stop tech (which the 6cyls don't have) could make a fair difference on my type of journeys.

I get 30 in the summer but only 22 today in my 3.0l. No traffic .
Does everyone think the car feels more eager when it's cold too? I guess the electronic wizardry makes the mix richer so you get both effects.

Hmm but you covered the same distance in half the time and with twice the average speed (and just under twice the MPG) - do you really think the weather is reducing your mpg here? Surely these figs are totally normal and to be expected given how the journey characteristic was completely different? If you'd taken twice as long to cover your first journey with half the average speed, I'd expect to see half-ish the mpg for that journey?? :|

I think a better gauge is take a look at the average over 2-3 cold months in winter and compare to your summer months for something a bit more scientific!

No the figures are clearly different due to many factors. The two journeys create an average of around 22/23mpg normally and this is now 19 on average due to he temps.

Mines been spot on. On my trip to Leeds and back this weekend the comp read 33.3mpg average.

How on earth? Do you slip stream HGVs or are you on the back of a tow truck??? I may get high 20s on a steady drive but can't stop myself sometimes or traffic moves against me. I'm very impressed.

I only do really short runs in the Z.. like 8 miles a day giving the car no time at all to warm up engine wise... this results in an MPG kicking around 23. Today however thanks to the new temps we're having, I'm down to 19.7 Bugger. Still, at 8 miles per day, that level of MPG is hardly a chore when you consider a gallon lasts me nearly 3 days lol.

Its cheaper than buying a second car tho (well, other than a banger that will let me down).

8 miles a day in the car? That's my cycling millage a day to work! :wink:

I've thought about cycling to work, in winter, its foul, in summer its sweaty, but even getting past that, the huge amount of poorly driven vehicles in Manchester would mean injury is almost certain.

Traffic causes the most differential on that trip. Anywhere between 29-36 being the best. The colder temperature in the tropical south has caused the mpg to drop to 24ish average from say two months ago when I was running around at 26mpg.

The biggest drop I've noticed isn't from the temps but from the winter boots, michy alpin a4s, currently returning around 10% less to the gallon over the same roads :? Price of all that grip I guess

Got 36.4 on a trip to Oxford today...motorway down there and through Cotswolds on way home.
Even in this fairly cold weather very impressed :wink:
