Cold Snap

Took delivery on 4th December so haven't had the best weather so far, rediscovering the art of RWD in snow, fantastic! A couple of things I've noticed however and interested to see if a common thread or just mine. First thing from cold I get squeaks and creaks in abundance, they wear off after a while but not what I was expecting. Secondly when the windows freeze (and no handy de-icer) you cannot open the doors as the window won't drop.

Aside from that it's fantastic, and gets lots of looks. 8)

Cheers all

Get the same with mine. The roof seems to creak a little when cold!
Haven't used mine much since Christmas but I did get "locked out" by the iced up windows last week!
Same happens on my girlfreinds MINI!

During this season ALWAYS carry something like a Credit Card, slide it between the glass and the Weather Seal and make sure there are 2 fingers of relatively clean glass so the window can drop. Most of the creaks are temperature related, they will most go away once it warms up, but a good dose of Rubber Seal conditioner [i recommend the BMW product], will lubricate all the top bits from the body and quiet it down.

Of course then I check the older posts and rea;ise the sticking doors have already been mentioned

Thanks Breaker and ChuckB much appreciated

I think the air con flaps do see to rattle a bit when the car is initially warming up - especially if the air is being directed to the windscreen. Have to say i didn't notice this till the temperatures really dropped. Once the car is warmed up, everything is fine. :)

Gummi Pflege on the rubber seals will stop the glass sticking.

Snow had all gone this weekend so got the Z4 out for a drive. It was even sunny enough to get the roof down Sunday! And I managed to wash it when I got back!

What a difference a week makes!

Don't think I would buy a new Z if I had to leave it outside in the cold, poor thing :fuelfire:

Why? It's only a car! A nice one granted, but still a car! I think they can handle being left outside!

Mine has been covered in snow for over a week!

My garage is for my motorbikes!

Yes, folding hard roofs are remarkably robust. :D :fuelfire: ................ I'll get my coat.

Why is it thet people everywhere put a collection of worthless "kid's bicycles", old golf clubs and other assorted junk in the garage and keep $70,000 vehicles outside in the snow, rain and baking sun ??

Of course the car should be inside, I left my Z3 outside for one winter and the bitch killed it's battery to get back at me , at a cost of $300+ to replace. Ouch. Needless to say, my zed is in the garage, all tucked in and comfy, right next to the 325Ci :fuelfire:
