Cold Air Induction Fitted

Well there's your problem chap, there is no such thing. This isn't tuning Saxo/Corsa 1.2 banger engines, BMW have already invested the money in these engines to maximise performance vs regulations/emissions. Supercharging on the other hand is another matter.... :)

I agree. The thing is if you are going to tune NA with the best parts you are looking into :

air intake (groupe M) - 800
full exhaust (supersprint, eisenmann etc) - 2500
remap - 500

then if you also go to a more agressive cranskshaft you will probably get IN TOTAL +30hp with the same money you get +100 from a supercharger.

NA tuning is just not worth it.

The only way fitting a different intake filter will increase power is if the original one caused a pressure drop in the manifold as the rpm increases, the engine requires a specific volume of air at max rpm, if the standard system can provide that then you will see no improvements.
If the filter was drawing hot air from the engine bay then an aftermarket filter system may make a small gain, but just look where the air inlet for the Z4 is, it's in a high pressure point feeding cold air straight through to the filter, so BMW obviously put a bit of thought into it.

Indeed, it does depend what you want out of it to be fair. I dropped £650 on the Gruppe M for my M, sounds epic and that's probably as far as it goes, worth £650? Probably not to most people, but to me I wouldn't live without the noise now. I'm under no illusion that performance wise though it does little if anything to the performance side of things. The placebo of performance is strong when you get more noise!

If you can afford supercharging, then yeah it's deffo the route to go for real performance. Either that, or as you mention upgrade to a bigger engine version.

I got the same noise almost (in the cabin) with the groupe M just by installing the sound generator :P

If the noise on a 2.5 is anything like an M engine with filter I'd be mighty impressed! :P

Nice dude ;) But no, it's different to the M sound wise. Comparing Apples and Oranges though, 2 totally different engine in reality :)

I did say almost, and almost can reach a long way.

Of course yours is a beast!

the best gains I seen were with a simota carbon intake and remap it gained 20bhp ask #Jason at Bw chiiptune he recommends these all though there not cheap cost about £200. Been on plenty on dyno meets were people had aftermarket intakes and they always make less power than the stock bmw intake that's a fact if your car is N/A they do naff all but make sound louder

google mythbuster intake vs standard they have video of testing both with readouts clearly showing no benefit in cold feed on N/A always worth it on turbo cars though

Good feedback to hear that on dyno sessions they always kick out less than stock.

Maybe, I think Evolve would disagree though as they claim their Eventuri kit makes around 10-15bhp over the stock system on the M....then again I don't trust dyno figures in any case.
Quite a long debate on here and on Cutters when they released the kit and consensus was their claims seem roundabout correct I believe. So are you saying their claims for their kit are effectively wrong/incorrect? (Not agreeing or disagreeing, merely playing devils advocate!)

I did say 'most' and you are now referring to a high end piece of kit on an ///M. I think OP's is a non ///M
so a different game.

My point and I'm sure many of the posts relate to just fitting a generic cold air intake and expecting improved performance.

I was more referring to the other chaps comment about aftermarket intakes not giving a gain. Was quite a sweeping comment is all, was purely seeking clarification on the kits being talked about as if he's been to many dyno days presumably seen lots of different types of kit....not just the cheap ones.

simota and eventuri are top intake systems....evolve can be very misleading though last year at santapod we seen these eventuri on M3's and one of the lads with a standard M3 made closest to stock bhp making 330bhp all the others were way down on power. Seen a lot of these eventuri intakes on more modern F evolutions models at bmw car club infact they were mostly on evolves stand so maybe they are supplier they do look the part id have one even if there was no gains. Evolve do promise good gains but BW chiptune is the place to go people just go to evolve because they may think there very good but at pod they don't have the quickest cars Bw chiptune and thorney usually do

Dyno are tweaked to suit tuners I've seen same cars dyno'd elsewhere getting less after that's why its always about 15% out really and only approx power but people will always quote their max figures. When no one drives at peak power for too long the engine would blow up that why these power claims are always not necessary true. Yes u might get 10 bhp more at max power but in reality its what your cars doing below the max line on dyno which is important. That's where the cars rpm will be mainly no ones drives around at max power unless you think your ken block etc
