I had a successful bid on eBay for some wheels. I agreed to meet at a Travelodge at a service station just of the M4 to pick them up. I told him to look for a silver Focus. We agreed a time of 1100 today (Sunday). At 1058 a van came into the Travelodge car park and pulled alongside me. We both got out, shook hands and exchanged pleasantries as we walked to the back of his van. He opened the doors and I could see 4 Lotus wheels with brand new tyres. Err where are the BMW wheels? “What BMW wheels, these are the ones you won on eBay yesterday”, he said.
I thought this is a scam, but couldn’t understand why he would give me reconditioned wheels with new tyres when I purchased scabby ones with illegal tyres. I then asked who he thought he was meeting. “Giles”, he said. “I am John. I bought BMW wheels for £236”. “These Lotus wheels sold for over £500”, he said. We looked at each other wondering who is scamming who, when another car arrived and pulled up on the opposite side of my car. I thought, “I am in a trap here and stood back looking at the other car pull in. I could see that he had BMW wheels in the back and introduced himself as the guy I was meeting. Giles then turned up to collect the Lotus wheels.
Four people unrelated, agreed to meet to collect 4 car wheels each at the same Travelodge at the same time on the same day. Coincidence?
