Morning guys,

the coin holder lid wont fully retract :( Therefore i cant charge my GPS or Phone any more, let alone get at any spare change.

After some digging, i realised a £2 coin is stuck between the hinge mechanism and the back of the holder.

Is there anyway i can try and solve this problem without ripping off the lid?

Kind Regards
Don

I've had this problem and to be honest it was 6months until i managed to get the £1 coin loose and out from behind the tray.

Try and get hold of your other half's nail file and you might get lucky like I did!

Is a pain! Patience is the key... I managed to get a cable tie in there and moved the coin out the way enough to open the lid.

Afterwards I did this: Ashtray "mod" Haven't had any issues since - also stops coins flying out under hard cornering with the lid open :)

Try to get at it from the top and bottom also. I don't know if it will help, but take the shift boot out and the little plastic thingy over the ash tray, see if you could reach around... just a though. Good luck.

Well, that's a fine compliment indeed... I guess the key is "in the making"... but lets not confuse someone that can use scissors with someone that knows what they're doing

But yes, it's turned out to me a surprisingly good mod.

That's an interesting thing to do with the ashtray and I think it's good to modify the coin holder similar to that. Well, my friend had also encounter a similar problem with his coin holder and it's really been a trouble for him because he can't charge any phone now. But looking at that link, I think that's a great idea that my friend would like to do. Anyway, I'm gonna share it to my friend and hopefully his crappy coin holder would get fix already. Thanks for that guide. :)

Since when's an ashtray been referred to as a coin holder?

Anyway I was giving this a read as my ASHTRAY lid keeps flying open under harsh braking... was wondering how to get the whole unit out to have a look at what's broken. Does anyone know?

I have the non smoking pack, so no issues there :D
That was not an option on US models. What is there if no ash tray?

I also did a mod to mine.... :P

Remove the ashtray. Remove the screw underneath. Pull up from the front, the whole unit just pulls out. Unplug a few cables at the back.

When you get it out have a look underneath the ashtray unit, there is a white semicircular arm that moves back when the lid it closed, has a metal pin through the bottom... IIRC this latches to the top on the right, make sure it is still in position - it will just slide across if not. If all is okay there it may be that the unit is in too tight - mine would close fine when out of the centre console, but as soon as I put it back in it wouldn't stay shut. I had to trim down the centre console slightly, where the unit locates. Best way to test this issue is to take the unit out and then put it back but without clicking into place, sitting 2mm/3mm proud of the centre console. Go for a spin :driving:

I like that

Needle nose pliers are your friend to retrieve something that slipped out the back and is blocking the lid.

And it's a chewing gum holder anyway, don't know what you're talking about a coin holder or ask tray for....
