Leaky front shock and an MOT coming soon, I think its time to replace the suspension on my 2.5si E85 Z4.

Has anyone got any recommendations for the best coilovers. Not looking to spend more than £1000, if I can avoid it, but i know a decent set can run you up quickly.

Thanks guys :driving:

Bilsteins have a good rep. The B6's will let you keep the OEM ride height. Otherwise people go for the B8's. The BMW technical director of tuning recommends the B6's . (Interview I read)

I’ve been very happy with my BC coilovers 👍🏼
ive heard good things about BC, whats the ride like ?

It’s compliant yet firm. It does it without the crashiness you can find with the M-Sport suspension. Plus you can tweak the height as you please.

I’ve paired mine with Powerflex all round and uprated ARBs and it still more comfortable than standard suspension.

I’ve had a set of BR Street & Track series BC Racing coilovers on my 3.0 si for over a year now & I’m really happy with them. They’re not mega expensive & they are easy to adjust. The guys at Bradford who are the main dealers were really helpful when I spoke to them on the phone.

That's interesting, BC seems to be pretty popular. Not often I'm out on the track, but I have to keep up with supercars while at work, so a bit of adjustability is a major plus. Thank you

KW V2 coilovers.

They are nearly Ohlin’s level dampening at a much more affordable price and are made using patented inox (stainless steel) which makes them more resistant to corrosion and seizing.

If however you don’t drive your car in the wet take a look at the ST XTA’s which are made in the same factory as KW suspension components (due to ST being KW’s sister company). Only difference is that ST shocks are not inox, but will provide the same level of dampening as KW and are considerably cheaper.

BC's are good but just don't come close to KW/H&R etc for build quality.

Mine have seized, leaked, droplinks needed to be replaced, top mounts are now a little wobbly yet the KW V2 on my other car are as good as new.

Also the progressive spring setup for the KW's have resulted in a far more comfortable ride.

My M Coupe came sitting on H & R coil-overs when I bought it that had only been on it a few months, but the previous owner paid a bit over £1,300 for them!

It was sitting way too low how he had it set up, but now I've got them at their highest setting it's a drop of 23mm at the front and 19mm on the rear so no more rubbing on the arch-liners!

The ride is firm, but a bit more compliant than my 3.0Si was on M-Sport suspension and run-flats.

I was put off by the progressive spring set up on KW’s as it restricted the ET / tire width on the front for the new alloys I’ve ordered, so I’m going for Bilstein B16 suspension set up with a ET30 9j alloy wheel on the front which is going to be somewhat near the edge of the arch,
