My business partner came in this morning saying that a warning light was on the dash (couldn't describe it).
So I went and had a look.
Started car, but no warning lights.
Revved the engine and straight away running rough. First thought coil pack. Why should I think this on a 2011 23i 12k car?
So I had a spare in my boot just for such a moment.
Bonnet up, engine cover off, matter of trial and error.
Pulled out no1, came to fit my replacement and the triangular plug wouldn't fit in.
Took a while to realise the original Bosch coil had centrally place key at the bottom of the triangle and my replacement one was offset.
The replacement was NGK brand. Would seem the site I bought it off was listing the wrong part for 23i.
So I removed a coil from my car and found that no4 coil was duff.
So first thought go buy genuine.
Check with local stealer parts dept. first.
Part no. at hand phoned.
Dept. busy would call me back, they had the car reg.
Never called back.
So phoned again.
"Sorry sir we do not stock that part"
"What, a part that's always seems to be going wrong on BMW's and they don't stock the part!"
So managed to buy from elsewhere for £20, Bosch part, but equivalent part no.
In fact bought 4, one for me and replaced the three rears 4,5,6.
All well and car running great.
Then the dealer called back.
The part number I gave them has been amended to a new part no. because the previous part, they were getting lots of faults. My partner that answered asked, if the coils were faulty, why haven't the cars been called back. Especially now her car is out of warranty.
And how much these coil...£55 each.
