Coil pack + spark plugs recommendations for E89 30iSDrive

I am trying to cure a misfire on cylinder 2 which I believe it's either the spark plug or the ignition coil.

I have been researching online and for the plugs, am I right in thinking that a good alternative would be Bosch FR7NPP332 pre-gapped to 1mm?

For the coil packs, is there an alternative to the BMW OEM one? They quoted me around £80 something for one but I was wondering if I could get a good quality non-OEM coil for less than that.

Any help or advice will be much appreciated.

Thanks

Hello Varixto,
May I suggest you move No2 plug to No 1 and No2 coil to No3 and see where misfire goes before changing parts.
I stick to NGK plugs and OE coils.

Delphi, Bosch, NGK would all be fine. I certainly wouldn't be paying anyone £80 for an ignition coil.

I have just had a look at the ignition coils and what's currently fitted (BOSCH 0221504470), after an internet search, seems not to be compatible with the E89!?

As you can see in the photo, judging by the production date, these probably have been there for a while. I have read online that the dates go in YY-MM-DD format (but that was in a USA forum) so I am not sure if the production date shown is september 2016 or september 2009 (my car is a 2009). Could anyone confirm, please?

At least all ignition coils are the same (ie: the same part number), even if apparently it's the wrong part number.

Having a look in Autodoc, the one that truly matches the part number they gave me at BMW is the Delphi GN10571-12B1. Which exactly matches the BMW OE part number: 12138616153. It's only £22,37. All 6 would be £134,52.

At BMW they quoted me £57.04 + VAT for exactly the same part (I thought they had told me £80 something).

The car will only throw the misfiring code (and MIL light) when the engine is warm but at the moment the car is not driveable to test (I am waiting to collect one of the alloys tomorrow, which is being refurbished). Once I take it for a spin I hope to be able to figure out what the problem is (unless it's an injection issue, I guess).

By the way, the car has 62k miles (just in case it helps). So if the spark plugs are still the originals (I haven't checked), it could actually be just that...I don't know.

Without checking the spark plugs I won't be doing anything but...what are your thoughts? Should I still replace the coils with the correct OEM ones, even if that's not in the end the problem? I know they recommend not to mix brands for ignition coils.

Any advice or suggestion will be much appreciated.

Had the same story a few weeks ago and put together a small list of possible coils:

All my issues were solved with the new DELPHI coils, each for just 20€!

Btw, 3 of my old coils were still original ones with more than 480 TKm on the clock (E61 30i N52).

After switching ignition coils (and then switching back to how they were), the misfire has not come back... However, the idle is not as smooth as it used to be. When the misfire happened, it was after having been driving the car in sport mode and caning it for a while.
I am thinking that it might be just a sign that the coil is beginning to fail, although not completely yet.
As I will be doing a journey with the car to Spain in the summer, I have decided to replace both the ignition coils and the spark plugs, as a preventative measure.

Thanks for the reply and the info. I will be fitting the Delphi coils (and new NGK spark plugs) in a couple of week's time, once I get the parts.

Well, I thought I should update the thread.
In the end I got the Delphi ignition coils. They take minutes to fit and now the car goes ok again... fingers crossed! :)
