ok,the AA came out to me and diagnosed the fault as a faulty coil pack, simple enough call to my local main dealer "yes sir we have one " 50 quid, the one they had was not the correct item ,there is a locater tab near the plug connector ,he said thats is all they list for the car but it does not fit as the aa chap had the exact same item on board, euro parts list three different types, one has the correct locater tab position but the end that fits on the spark plug is way to small and does not fit....i have the faulty coil in my hand its a bosch bmw part  any ideas chaps? it is a 2007 z4 2.5si ,totally standard car all original.

N52B25A engine code.

These are all the numbers on the coil:
BMW Bosche

7548553-01

0221 504 463

06-02-20 D 56927

I tried all the coil packsl they have in euro parts they list 3, cost not an issue ...the fact that BMW do not list the part is problem as i unable to buy the correct coil pack, the listed part in euro parts do not fit, and the listed part at main dealer has the centre positioned locator tab, mine is on the left as you look at it.There is a slot in the electrical connector where the tab locates.

Is the 2.5si is different to the std 2.5 and different to the 3.0se..correct?

I Have physiclly tried the main dealer part and the euro parts item, it a very simple job to do and they 100% are not the correct parts.

The only one that has the correct locator tab at europarts on it does not fit on the spark plug itself that they list for the car and which is on the car.

And what does the dealer say they would do if you booked it in? Can't say I have ever come across a part not being available - especially as simple as a coil pack!

His exact words where " thats what is listed " the AA chap was with me at the parts desk and showed him the difference but he did not really seem interested. I am asking my self the same question i.e. if i booked it in what would they fit!

I would have thought a compact for a N52 engined car would be as common as luck from a dealer.

Say that again in English? :o

Is the issue the bloke working on the parts desk then? It is BMW in crawley. totally agree that it should be a simple thing to buy, but as of end of play today nobody can sell me the part.

Hmm, I never really had an issue in Vines of Gatwick with parts (make sure you get the 10% as well by the way as they always give that if you do get the right part).

Have you looked at realoem.com for the part number there?

Turning it off now. :x

I had a coil pack let go on my 2006 N52 2.5, picked one up from GSF as they had it in stock, I've just dug out the receipt & it was part number 925BM0110 & cost £24 inc VAT in Jan 2014.

Would have thought this would be the BMW number http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/part?id=BU32-EUR-02-2006-E85-BMW-Z4_25si&mg=12&sg=05&diagId=12_1417&q=12137594936

A quick reverse lookup on realoem of the part number on your coil (7548553-01) shows:

12137548553
Ignition coil
BOSCH
  • From: 09/01/2004
    To: 02/11/2009 (ENDED)

Superseded by:
  • 12137594936 (01/01/2009 — ), Exchangeable retrospectively
    12137551049 (04/01/2006 — 01/09/2008), nonexchangeable retrospectively

Supersedes:
  • 12137523345 (09/01/2004 — 08/05/2004)

Part 12137548553 is also used on the following vehicles:
  • 1' E87   (03/2005 — 02/2007)
    3' E90   (02/2004 — 08/2007)
    3' E91   (03/2004 — 08/2007)
    5' E60   (07/2004 — 02/2007)
    5' E61   (07/2004 — 02/2007)
    6' E63   (02/2004 — 07/2007)
    6' E64   (03/2004 — 07/2007)
    7' E65   (06/2004 — 07/2008)
    7' E66   (07/2004 — 07/2008)
    Z4 E85   (10/2004 — 08/2008)
    Z4 E86   (10/2005 — 08/2008)

So it reads as if the latest part number is 12137594936. But if the dealer/you have tried that, I don't know what to suggest.

ok that is the part that euro parts supplied me (the one with the correct tab) it appears from what i have read here:

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=733174

The old coil had a "snap" connector to the spark plug where as the replacement just slides over the plug, if any one is able to look at the thread above this is exactly what my concern issue is/was.

Well that's the same number I posted in the one above but from a different angle so they should be able to find it if we can

Thank you for all the replys and information, much appreciated and hopefully my z4 will be back on the road tomorrow.

I understand that the concern is that the design has slightly changed, and the new one doesn't give a pronounced 'snap' when fitted.

That happens quite frequently, but in your case I don't think it will cause any problem, as it's also been mentioned on that thread that someone was running a mix of both types without issue, and has since moved on to a complete set of the new number.

It's not like on my old e34 M5 where the dealer/catalogue said one part number (crank mass damper with 5 bolts holding it on), when my car had a single, central bolt holding it on. Seems that my, very early car used the remainder of the cranks & dampers of the older e28 M5 and it hadn't been documented anywhere.

Yes i think because i did not hear or feel the snap etc it did not feel like the coil was on the plug correctly, unless the supplied europarts one was also faulty as it looked like the box had been opened, they have another six coming in tomorrow ,i will also go back int vines as armed with a bit more info i may have more luck, the aa chap said they don't like them turning up as it does not "look good' when they are trying to sell new cars, fair point i guess but the parts chap did not seem to have much time for him.

But in my defence regarding vines the coil pack he said is the listed one has the centre locating tab not the left ..and he said they only listed one, they must list another which i am guessing he missed,we all make mistakes. Vines wrong ..Europarts correct .
