Coil Failure - No2 Cylinder ( 4cyl 2.0)

Drove out of the drive yesterday and got an almost instant flashing yellow 'emissions' light which then turned to solid.

Engine sounded like a bag of nails too.

Back on drive, called BMW Assistance. Had an engineer there within an hour.

He replaced the No2 coil and told me to get it checked at a dealer, which is happening tomorrow.

Bearing in mind I've owned this car 3 weeks, and its a BMW Approved Used, is there anything I should be asking for, asking to be checked - I'm wondering if one has gone, will the others be on the way out oo and demand they're all changed?
 
Had the same problem when i had my 2.2 like you i phoned out BMW assist and he changed all six rather than just the faulty one he possibly did that just in case any others were on the way out,but there was no mention of taking the car to the dealers to get it checked out if he's fixed the car there should be no reason to take it to the dealers. :?
 
He said they recommend it to make sure it hasn't done anything else, only has limited diagnostic kit on board etc.

I think I am going to ask for them all to be changed, and the plugs too. I don't want this happening again.
 
Have you taken your zed back to the dealers or is it running fine after changing one of the coils?
 
You had your coil sorted for free, my Mrs had a coil failure once and I'm still paying for the result nearly two decades later :oops:

I'd be surprised if BMW changed them, unless they believe they are faulty.
 
The same happened to me about a month after buying my car and they replaced one coil. Two further coils then failed just out of warranty and the garage I went to changed the two faulty ones and the remaining original coil.

Anecdotally I've heard that the coils installed originally were poor quality and liable to failure so probably worth pushing to get them all replaced.
 
No need to change all coils if your car is running okay and no warning light anymore.

I had No 5 go on me last year. Got it replaced and no trouble *touch wood since. Would you change all 4 tyres if puncture in one tyre and tread on other three fine?

It depends if you agree with the anecdotal reports of poor quality coils being used originally. Even then there's no need to replace non-faulty ones unless you want to reduce you perceived risk of them failing.
 
They wouldn't change them, I've got 11 months on the BMW warranty left, so I'll just wait n see.

and the Missus comment had me pissing myself too!
