Coding with Carly app?

Hi folks,

I have an Elm327 OBD11 wifi reader from my S3 Audi days. I've read that most on here use the Carly app with an iPhone/iPad, together with a wifi OBD11 reader to read information like fault codes and live parameters, but I wondered if you can actually code simple things on the Zed with it too?

The Carly website is a little conflicted. It says I can code certain things I know I already have (roof with key), but also says rear windows up and down coding is possible...

Any input welcome!

Thanks.

could they mean the rear windows on the E89?

Quite possibly but they do differentiate between e85 and e89 when you select the coding options available.

I think that option comes up with mine too. I figure it's more a generic option, even though we don't have rear windows!

I'm sure on the coding options it comes as default as disabled. Not ever tried enabling it though. I'm sure even if you did it wouldn't do anything! No loom or window!!

I didn't think the ELM327 cables (or wifi adaptors) were supported for coding the Z4? Pretty sure there are only a couple of types of cable that will work for all coding on the Z4. Not sure about the WiFi (or BT) adaptors though.

they removed support for non Carly cables and bt adapters .

ELM327's can fry your ECU apparently.
I only use Carly with an official Carly wifi dongle for reading and coding and stopped using my cheap ELM327 dongle for this reason::

I didn't know they ever supported non Carly cables (and BT adaptors). As long as you use one of the cables known to work with INPA NCS etc you should be OK. I know mine works fine with Carly. I bought it from a supplier recommended by coders. Not much help to the OP though as I think he's after a dongle.

same moduels used o e46 or e9x chassis and preloaded with same files

Thanks Marius, that restores some faith. I've been kindly given a discount code for the Carly stuff, so I'll drop them a line and buy a wifi plug in today.
