Coding tool

Hi all
I'm fairly new to BMW but I'm aware that there are tools for coding and making adjustments to car settings. I'm more familiar with Audi and VCDS and own a genuine VCDS cable.

I've noticed that my 2007 E86 has a couple of settings I'd like to change - indicators don't flash when locking the car and my indicators only flash once when you nudge the stalk.

What is the best tool to get for making these adjustments and for scanning and clearing faults.

thanks

I used the Carly app to code mine when I first got my E85 it worked very well and at the time the price was reasonable. They have since moved to a subscription model and im not so sure I could still recommend them today.

If you are familiar with VCDS then using the BMW NCS Expert and NCS Dummy program will feel quite familiar to you. If you search on here you will find a link to ISTA/INPA and in the download bundle there is the coding tools NCS Expert.

From what I see you download a copy of your cars module, save the file then use NCS Dummy to edit the file before re uploading it to your car.

Thanks. I've heard of Carly but not keen on an regular payment
Had a quick look for the products you mentioned....cable is around £30-40 and NCS dummy is free....does that sound right? Seems cheap considering the VCDS cable I got was over £200.

That sounds about right I paid £45 for my cable and I think I got the software from Bimmer Geeks. The cable was a UltraODB2 Super K+DAN supporting Ediabaslib firmware.

Lots of codewords but once you have watched a few youtube videos it will make a little bit of sense.

NOTE: I have only used my cable for Diagnostics and brake bleeding.

Thanks

I'll have a look and see if I can figure out everything it does before I go ahead and buy it

Just a thought but if you just want a few features like 3 flash indicators, beep on lock, etc. coded you might be able to find someone near you with Carly who'll help you out on here:- https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=97818

Or if you are going to a Z4 meet like Zedfest or the Ace Cafe someone might do it for you there - that's how I got my last two done!
