Coding PDC

Hello,

I hope i'm posting this in the right section :). If not, please excuse me.

Lost 2-3 days researching the internet about coding option 508 (front & rear PDC) on my Z.
It's part of a big retrofit I'm doing (M trim + PDC). I bought 1 Bosch PDC module from a scrap car (an E90)
and it's back & front wiring harness but I lack the knowledge of coding the option on my car.

I tried to connect to my car via a K+DCAN cable (the one with the switch - I removed the bridge between 7th and 8th pin just to be sure) and in INPA it shows that the Battery & Igniton are on.. but I can't get past this point, NCSExpert does not recognize the car.

I am wondering about the following things:
1. Do you guys know if this retrofit is possible? i've seen it done on bmw 3 series that had option 507 (rear PDC) but I am unsure if it's possible to do on a Z.
2. Any ideeas on how to diagnose the connection to the car? Maybe there's a software i'm missing?
3. The PDC has 3 connectors (front wiring harness / rear wiring harness / connector to K-CAN & junction). My K-CAN & Junction connector came with the wires cut. Should I try to link the end of the cut wires to existing ones nearby?
4. Any tips for connecting to my car via that cable :D?

Thanks in advance,
Robert

hi,

1. yes - I didn't do it myself, but Dave (AnubisZed), try searching for his posts
2. when in INPA, select chassis either E89 or E90 and then Read Fault Memory
4. lots of youtube videos out there

Regarding point 2 I think you probably need to invest in a proper cable. On some cheapo cables they emulate the ignition signal so although you may see the voltage/ignition status via INPA that just means the cable is connected correctly to the car and not that the cable is successfully communicating with the car.

This cable is the best for reliability and performance and works in every app and program out there: https://www.bimmergeeks.net/product-page/bimmergeeks-pro-cable

You can get wireless adapters on both bluetooth and WiFi on that site too but I like to keep it simple, less time wasted troubleshooting connectivity with a cable.

For the retrofit process it should be simple. You would need to connect the PDC module to the car, add $508 to the VO then default code any module that has to communicate with it. Most probably the CIC and maybe KOMBI. I don't know where you would tap into the CAN network for it though if you car isn't pre wired already. Maybe from the roof module?

There are cheap crap cables out there, that Bimmergeeks cable is a very good one, although I'm still using my cheap one from eBay that I've had for the last four years now (I obviously got a decent one!!). As for removing the bridge between 7 & 8, did you try it before you did this as I'm not really sure you should need to if it's one with a switch on it.

As for whether it is possible or not.... yes it's possible, and I'll actually get around to it eventually

The canbus wires (Orange + orange/green) should, in theory, be able to connect to any canbus point, as the network will be able to find it. You still need a +ve and -ve connection as well.

Once you get your D-KCan connection sorted I'd be interested to see how you get on with this, as I've had all the parts here ready but, like I say, just not got around to it yet. In fact I may even try this coming Saturday

Thanks for all the answers guys,

I've removed the "switch" between pins 7 & 8 just to be sure that the switch is not faulty, I will try again this weekend to connect to it again (as I tried the cable after removing the bridge on a MINI R56 and it did not function well .. maybe it'll work if I connect it to my Z).
I've also talked to the BMW dealership in my town and they said they can't help me with this retrofit as it's not approved by BMW (and they can't offer warranty on the work that's being done + issues when updating the software on the car).

I've decided to order the Bimmergeeks cable and see if I can connect to the car myself and maybe code it on my own with the information i've gathered till now. If not, I'll just ask somebody to help me by remote coding the car.

...
Now that's odd, as it's available as an dealer retrofit kit!!!....

Only for the EUR market i'm afraid :(. They've checked with my VIN number (USA car) and told me it's not possible.

The bimmergeeks cabled just arrived. Works perfectly fine. The problem was the cable I had bought before :(.

I will proceed with coding soon :)

The added benefit of the Bimmergeeks cable is that it's twice the speed of any other cables around

Coded option $508 on the car, plugged in the PDC module and it got recognized by the car. Did not plug in the sensors yet, but I believe they will work just fine :). As next month I'll retrofit M trim fully on my car, i'll also install the PDC. I'll keep you posted :)

Thanks for all the help!

P.S: I'm working with SPDaten v67, but on NCSExpert the CCC module does not get recognized for some reason (but I can see it on INPA). Any advice?
P.S. 2: KOMBI did not have any setting that contains "PDC" into it, so I left it in peace.

Should be labelled as CIC in NCSExpert. Mine is the latest version of the software (1A) so comes up as CIC.1A, earlier version would be CIC.xx depending on version.

V67 is recent enough, nothing on our E89 has changes for a few years so anything later than V66 is good.

[ref]LordLolzeye[/ref], any chance you can direct me to where you downloaded the files to install all the software (and the actual Daten files)? I've tried a couple methods, only got one to install, and it complains the daten files are corrupt or some such. I kinda want to wipe everything and do it over, but I want to be sure Im working with valid files first so if I have issues I know its me / the cable / etc.

Thanks. That site hasnt worked well for me before, but seems to be playing nice tonight.
