Coding a secondhand Airbag ECU, can anyone help please?

hey everyone, could really use some help with airbag module issues. Main control module and right b pillar module is faulty and needs replacing. Nearly impossible to find the same part numbers as they were discontinued in 2003. I found a used main module with part numbers directly superceding the original but the workshop here in Auckland NZ has not been able to code out some airbag issues from the module although they have managed to change the VIN on it. Would this be due to their technical limitation or is the module faulty? Because I will be purchasing bits and bobs from all over the fegging globe and its costing a bomb just on shipping. Dont want to purchase something from Russia and wait for it for a month only to realise that it cant be used. Original Partnumbers: 65776935920 Main Module, 65776928572 Right B pillar module. Would appreciate any help and advice. Cheers

When I had to change mine the person that did the coding said that the software that he used was something the main dealer did not have. However, if you have managed to change the VIN - I would be tempted to say faulty unit. Was there any water damage on the part?

I'd say the same thing, the original module has the vin but throws a fault code, so the dash is lit up.
If they've coded the module but there is still a fault the light will stay on. I'm assuming they've coded the module, then cleared all fault codes? So it shouldn't be a historic fault causing the light... but sometimes its the simplest things that are missed! So worth checking?

Having said that have you checked the codes now? Because the module might now work but something else maybe throwing the light? The right pillar module? That could be the faulty one? Also seat occupancy sensor is a known trouble maker.

I had a main control module issue, and a seat occupancy issue. So even if you fix one, it will show the light. They guy that did mine coded my module and then it still threw a light, so we did a new diagnostic. This proved the module was working as it should, but indicated a new fault with the seat sensor. So we coded that out and now everything works as it should. I'd say do something similar, start with the main module. Then work your way forward, once the main module is fixed the car should start "talking properly" with other areas and indicate where other faults are, like the right module.

If the main module is now coded correctly I'd also recommend you re-fit your old right b pillar module. If the main module isn't working properly not sure how the Workshop knows there is a right b pillar module fault? Once the old right b pillar module is fitted with the new main module, then do a full system reset, and re-diagnose for faults and then just work your way forward from there.

It's better to go one step at a time, as this ensures what you've done has worked so you can move onto the next one. If you try to do too many steps at once, and something goes wrong... you don't know where the problem is.

As per above, it maybe you need 3 posts to activaate the PM function. That was the old rule, figure it's still in place... you're almost there now :wink: lol
