looking for some advice, looking for a code reader for my Z4, my neighbours Z3 and my brothers 320i, have been reading upon the icarsoft unit and looks ok for the price, anything better or cheaper or more common amongst us Zeders, looking for stand alone as don't want to mess with laptops. Cheers

Martyn.

Hi I use the Icarsoft I910

Costs about £90 in the UK or £98 if you need the 16 to 20 pin adaptor. (don't need the adaptor for the Z4) Cheapest I have see is [http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/iCarsoft-i910-OBD2-Diagnostic-Device-CANbus-Color-Display-For-BMW-E36-E39-E46-/111357433386?hash=item19ed6b962a:g:~vIAAOSw2GlXKKKe][/url]

about £70 from Germany. Loads of reviews an vids available and it also covers the mini.

I used a c110 reader and it sorted/diagnosed all problems I encountered.

+1 On this.....plenty on ebay around the £34 mark. Have had mine a few years now.

Of course if you have a laptop then there are other options.

£10 obd2 dongle of eBay and either Torque for android or Carly for BMW. Carly can do pretty much everything for Exx cars including coding, dpf regen, battery register etc.

I have one of these...

+1 for Torque Pro if you just want to check and clear codes, view readings etc and don't actually need to 'code'.

I bought the full BMCables kit and software for laptop but scared myself when messing about and it flashed up "confirm deletion of all modules and settings", at which I got out fast and flogged it to another member who hopefully had more idea than me :)

I've got a d+k can cable for the laptop also to do the things Carly can't, Inpa and bmw tools can be scary especially when it's all in German and you can do some damage if your not careful.
