COD: Black Ops

The trouble with the PC is that you spec (at the time) a high-end graphics card, which makes your PC/laptop an expensive piece of kit, and then in the space of a year or so the latest games on the PC either don't run or run with major compromises because the technology has moved on so fast. So you are faced with a choice of upgrade your card/swap your PC/laptop or don't buy any new games. The PC games sales are a fraction of console sales for that reason (oh and that versus the cost of a new PS3/X Box versus a high end graphics capable PC or laptop). That's why I changed over to console. You know its going to work on your machine, you know there are going to be loads of other people playing online and you know that because the sales of console games far outweigh PC sales that there will be loads more titles to choose from. I don't think the graphics on the latest PC games can be a huge amount better than PS3/X Box. Add in as well the Kinect (and whatever SOny brings out to try and counteract) and gaming on the PC is a non-starter IMO.

I agree with this. I happily played the Battlefield series on PC for years. But no way am I paying anything from £600 to £3,000 for a new gaming PC just to play the latest version of the game, and safe in the knowledge that in 18-24 months I would need to buy upgrades. I do prefer the PC games,.. especially the mouse and keys control. But I don't play enough to justify the expense, and I want to be in my living room playing on the big screen.

So for me it's...£40 for a mates old XBox, £45 for the game, £15 for a bit of online subs and probably another 4 weeks hard work getting used to consoles.

any chance of a Z4-F xbox clan too, for all of us with the decent console? :P

 Thanks, sk93, spot on... someone asked me to give an example of an oxymoron the other day and I couldn't think of one, that'll do nicely.

sk93,

Yeah... Canon / Nikon... Roadster / Coupe... PS3 / X-Box...

TBH I bought the PS3 as that's what a mate had - for CoD online. Although am now very pleased with what Sony are doing - the BluRay player is so much faster than others I've seen and the iPlayer / 4oD / ITV Player additions are great! If I didn't have Sky I'd be tempted to try the Love Film subscription.

Honestly, was indifferent to the PS3 when I bought it, now, love it!

kernel-debugger, I like some of the additions to the online gameplay - while it's a bit of a bugger I think it's good that you can't earn killstreaks from helicopters and the like. Also prefer the way you buy weapons now. Just getting back into Ground War. Just like the previous versions I love it when people get their arses kicked and go nuts in the lobby

Ian, What's your gamertag? I'll add you and we can get shot repeatedly by 10 year olds together... it'll be grand!

Have to say, I feel slightly dirty having a bit of Microsoft kit in the house and the set up was pure Microsoft (clunky)... annoyed that I have to pay to play online too :|

My gamertag be sk93 mr tweed!

As long as you aren't the singing type, we should indeed!

If anyone wants to add me on xbox live my gamertag is NikB - original I know. You'll have to prise me away from Kinect or Rock Band 3 but I'm happy to play some more COD:BO online.

I also was into Battlefield on the PC and enjoyed the control system but I have much more fun playing Bad Company on the console. The PC is probably a bit more hardcore and better for online clans but for actual entertainment give me the console every time.

i have developed issues with low flying commerical planes - i keep reaching over my shoulder for an RPG

I'm about to give up now anyway :( After 10 years of mouse and keys I just cannot get to grips with the console controls.

I'm getting angry and swearing out loud in my living room ! Every time I get someone in front of me ready to shoot I scramble for the controls and end up pointing somewhere into the sky like I'm firing a salute. And then I am shot.

Given up or struggling on ?

Maybe true but part of that reason is because many the games on PC are console ports which I believe use DirectX9 still (in the case of the xbox at least). Depends on the monitor but at 1920*1200 any games look better on PC. When I connected the PS3 to the same monitor there was just no comparison. I heard most games do not run at HD resoliutions on the consoles either. On the PC you can run most games at whatever res the monitor supports as long as the graphcis card is good enough. On a console the menu system will be set to for example 1920*1200, but games will only run at whatever res they were developed for, which is often lower than what people think.

Pro's an con's both sides really but overall I still much prefer the PC. With the PS3 I found that yes you know games will run but there were still performance problems with the few games I tried, low frame rates at times. Also can't beat the mouse and keyboard combo of he PC :). If games developers developed more PC only titles I think there would be a huge difference between the current (old) consoles and PC games, in favour of thePC of course

By the way, when I’m not gaming, I sometimes switch things up and play on platforms like https://mostbet.net.in/. It’s got that same sense of variety and customization I like about PC gaming, which makes it a fun alternative when I want to take a break from traditional games.
I think you make a really solid point here. A lot of the console vs PC debate does come down to how the games are developed in the first place. Since so many titles are designed with consoles in mind first, the PC versions often end up being ports that don’t fully take advantage of the hardware. When you actually get a game that’s built specifically for PC, you really see the difference in visuals, frame rate stability, and overall flexibility with settings.

That being said, I can also understand the appeal of consoles for people who don’t want to worry about hardware upgrades, drivers, or compatibility issues. It’s just a more “plug-and-play” experience.

But yeah, for those of us who enjoy tweaking settings and pushing performance, the PC definitely feels like the stronger option. And I agree — mouse and keyboard for certain genres (like strategy or FPS) is hard to beat.
