Cockpit Cover?

Hi,

Does anyone make cockpit cover for the E89? I need something to stop leaves and general junk falling into the car when parked with roof down. I guess this used to be called a tonneau cover!

I think that you may be the only person to want one of these and because of this you may find it difficult to find one.
There are covers available for the E85 to protect the soft top but its meant to be used with the top up.
 
Pretty sure there is nothing to fit one to. I also have an MX5 and they are available for those but they have something to attach them to.
Personally I think you’d be better off getting a roof module to close the hood while walking away.
 
I'm coming from a TVR Griffith where the roof arrangements are simple in the extreme. The E89 roof system looks a bit delicate and I do not want to use it more than necessary, especially given that the car is 7 years old already.

Oh and IMO the Z4 looks better without the roof!
 
I would of thought this is going to be something you’re going to have to get made, can’t see it being too difficult.
 
I just wonder what a tonneau can be attached to on an E89 without a degree of bodywork mutilation?

Probably like many others I've had them on older rag tops and they were an alternative expedient to putting the roof up, but the studs were already a permanent feature on the body.

I also feel a bit nervous insurance wise about leaving the car without putting the roof up, although I've never bottomed this one out.

But if it's what you want - go for it.

Back in the day, my brother had a Frog Eyed Sprite. It didn't have a convertible top and the tonneau cover did the trick. Actually during chilly weather and with only the drivers side exposed, it made for a comfortable ride even in the worst conditions.
Most here are familiar with the fastening systems of most tonneaus and convertible top covers (button snaps or worse) but it's 2018 already and there is this new product called Velcro :poke: ! What I'm saying is there are alternatives to be considered.

If there are no aftermarket suppliers, I would search local upholsterers. Plus with all the sailors over there, I would check out nautical suppliers. Over here it seems that boaters are always looking for kit to enclose their deck areas or to provide 'tent like' covers. Obviously there are 'fastening" and storage solutions for that sort of product.

You might consider a cockpit cover versus a tonneau. It covers the windscreen and lays over the whole cockpit with elastic straps with soft hooks that go to each fender. Can't be used with the car moving but much more simple to install and no need for studs in your bodywork. Studs would be a problem on the Z's dashboard with the windscreen raked so much....

I understand your desires, I bought a car cap from Halfords and it does exactly what your asking.
I also use mine in the frost as it keeps all the windows frost free, and only takes a minute to put on or off.

I have just looked online for you and they were £29.99 but are currently only £10
