COBBLERS!

Why does every quick job turn into ...wish i'd not bothered.
Fixing the light switch in the cubby, the switch had fell away and the piece of plastic that pushes it was long broken off.
Took all the cubby frame out and fixed the switch and made up a plastic connector, little did i realise that i was a bit too liberal with the glue, it had found its way to the front of the cubby door! :headbang: So had to rub it all down and spray Satin black. The paint was from Halfrauds and more like gloss black than satin. :headbang: Went to a proper paint supplier and bought another tin, rubbed down again sprayed and fitted.
All in all 2 days instead of 2 hours.

Ahhh I feel you. That feeling of going down a rabbit hole and the dread that things may have been better if you left it alone ...

But, I guess for me at least, just can't help but give it a go! 8)

Sorted out the broken storage compartment switch and upgraded the boot, licence plate and interior lights to LED minus the glovebox as there is no natural place for one in my Z.

Lol! It is a really crap design.
I was not about to piddle about dismantling the cubby hole and then not being sure the switch wouldn't break off again. So I stuck it on the frame where the door operation will naturally open and close the switch. I'll rig up a cover for the switch at some point.

In regards to the satin paint. Did you use plastic primer or some other bonding agent?

Plastic primer, but now wondering if the correct colour is anthracite.
The Halfrauds colour still a mile away from satin though

I don't know what anthracite refers to in respect to Z4 the interior colour.
Black coal? Gray Coal?

Mine is Black Oregon , just out of curiosity I'm going to take the top part of the cubby into the paint shop and see if they can match it
I reckon its the black interior from those pics

Good idea, coal (anthracite) isn't uniform in colour (to the eye). Who knows what shade the trim actually is!

Sytners had no idea, I'll see what the paint shop says next week

BMW Anthrazit is dark grey/charcoal colour.

My e34 M5 was available with 'anthracite/anthrazit' seats or 'silver grey/silbergrau' seats. The former was dark grey/black, the latter light grey.

However, bright lighting (or camera/phone flash) makes the anthracite look lighter, as can poor lighting make the silbergrau look darker (top vs bottom examples).

The dark grey/black sounds about right, I'll mention that when I call at the paint shop
Cheers
