Clutch wear

What's the best way to check the condition/wear of the clutch please?

Also, what's the normal life expectency and how much should I pay to replace?

Mine lasted to 140,000 miles.

BMW cost was about £3k for clutch & flywheel.

Specialist cost (with OEM parts LUK) was a third of that - and you may as well get the RMS changed at the same time as it's a cheap job while it's all apart - or an expensive one on it's own.

Rear Main Seal?

That's the one - rear main oil seal - #5 on the below diagram.

It's a little seal between the engine & the gearbox (where the clutch/flywheel fits), that is prone to seeping.

Most people live with the odd drip or two, as it's not worth the cost of stripping the clutch/flywheel for the sake of a £20 seal.
