Clutch stop, was it necessary?

For a long time I've been thinking if the Z4's clutch travel was a bit too much. Not sure what's the general opinion about this, but I saw many options out there including 3D printed solutions. I just grabbed one of these and lets just say it makes a world of a difference. I feel silly not using this for the past 4 years of owning the Z4...

Curious to know what other solutions are being used in this forum

I've with you on the length of the clutch travel.
It's not so much the length of travel, it's the 'end' is just a touch too far away.

I'm short, with stumpy legs which include a slightly dodgy knee joint at full extention under load.
The clutch when it stops on the firewall is 1 inch too long for comfort. Usable but not ideal.

My home made clutch stop (a chopped up rubber door stopper) is fantastic and solves my short ass issues. :thumbsup:

Having paid about £7-10 for fabricated ones and installed home made ones I maintain it’s a nice mod that improves the feel of driving the car in a spirited manner
 
You've never experienced short legs. 😁
TBF I'm only 5'9" tall and don't have long legs.

I just set the seat fore/aft adjustment to where I can get the clutch fully depressed and adjust everything else from there.

I'm 5'5 on a good day, with short pins.
Getting that clutch against the bulkhead is uncomfortable for long/repeated periods, involving an odd twist/stretch.

That little extended bump stop makes a huge difference to comfort levels for some vertically challenged folk.
 
As Mr with non messy, I can't say I've ever needed one. I don't put the clutch to the bulkhead, it's not needed.

Similarly, I don't pull the clutch to the bar on a motorcycle. It's disengaged way before that.
 
I fitted one one I first bought my Zed, but found that the clutch didn’t fully disengage, so I removed it again. My clutch was taking up fairly close to the floor at 20k miles and it seems marginally closer now at 100k miles.

Mine is the same, when I first got the car I worried there was something wrong so took it to a garage to check it for me. Turned out it was normal:thumbsup:

When I habitually drove only manual cars, on the rare occasions I drove an automatic I almost always had terrible trouble with the clutch. For some reason pushing the pedal to the floor would trigger the ABS. If I was manoeuvring and not wearing a seatbelt, often it would result in a nose bleed too.
Now I drive automatics more often, I seem to have got the hang of it, but they’re much trickier than manuals for the infrequent user.
 
I did the same with my first auto, except it was too old to have ABS so resulted in some squealing rubber and black lines!

Haven't had an auto for over 20 years now and don't miss them.
