Hi, Just read your post. I did this myself about 2yrs ago. Watch the tutorial on youtube from Bavarian motor works[ or something like that]. I have a E86 coupe and it took 3 weeks to do , mainly because the bolts in the exhaust manifold were rotted off and I had to drill them out , which took ages and 2 sets of drills! The clutch kit and solid flywheel were nearly £500 so 1k to do it is not a bad quote to be honest. Just take your time if you can, I did mine with the car on ramps at the back and axle stands at the front. I am not a mechanic, but have always fixed my own motorbikes and cars. The DMF was very worn and wobbly, fit a solid one, then its just clutch plate and cover for the life of the car. Hope this helps, Stan.
