Clutch Judder

Having read through a number of topics on here related to Clutch Judder, I hope no one will mind if I ask about this again... I've had a BMW approved used Z4 3.0i se (2005) for about 11 months. Its approaching its warranty end, and I've always felt a slight judder when engaging the clutch at low revs, noticeably in 1st or 2nd. It doesn't always do it...

Having never driven another Z4, I've no idea if the judder indicates failure soon or later, or even if its normal ish. Though others report similar, so it may just be how they are. Thing is, with the warranty expiring, I'm keen to make all the use of it I can.

If you get the clutch done after the warranty ends would you be taking it to an independent or to the dealer?

If you are taking it to the dealer anyway, then you may as well take chance now that it's going to be fixed under warranty, because if it turns out to be a wear & tear replacement then you're just paying the same cash a couple of months earlier.

If you're using independents, then get them to have a quick drive/diagnostic - they may be able to suggest whether it's wear & tear or something more serious (i.e. warranty claim).

I had something similar about a month before the end of my warranty - dealer replaced the clutch under the approved used warranty no question...

that was with approx 36k on it...

If it were mine and i was going to keep it I would go ahead and try to get it fixed under warranty. 4 owners at 35k worries me a little. If you wait you will be forced into fixing it without the warranty anyway.

That would depend on how you drive it , where(city vs country). the only way to get peace of mind is to get someone who knows what they are doing to open it up and take a look.

Well I've had it into the dealership to be checked, while they didnt take it apart, they drove it about, high revs, low rev changes etc and said it felt normal...

well, then I would treat it like an old girlfriend until monday , then press the issue at the dealership again

Actually giving it some stick can sometimes help clean up the mating faces
