clutch delay valve?

Since owning car clutch has been creaky when depressed to floor. Ive always noticed that when driving hard that it felt as though I couldn't get my foot off the clutch quick enough when changing up, resulting in some slip ( which being an experienced driver I would not normally do 8) ) Ive also noticed now that I can't get the clutch to take up drive smoothly when setting off from cold on a morning but it is fine when warm.

Just wondering what peoples thoughts are on these symptoms and whether taking CDV off would help, if not I'm thinking new clutch.

Any thoughts much appreciated

CDV = Caveo Diablo Valva

purify your car and you'll find most of these go away - mine did!

CDV change will improve the ability to move of in first and the upchange from 1st to 2nd. What milegae has the Zed got...?

Car is 93k so I imagine the valve is worn.

The CDV doesn't wear its just a metal restrictor in the clutch hydraulic line between the master and slave cylinder. It restricts the flow of hydraulic fluid and is supossedly designed to improve clutch engagement and make gear changing in low gears smoother - it does just the opposite. Easy to replace, link below.....

I'm not one to get over excited but I am genuinely staggered and amazed at the difference with the CDV out. The car is completely different, it now drives like a sports car and most of the issues have gone. The clutch pedal actually feels like it operates the clutch, I can set off and change up with ease! Thanks for advice everyone :)

So basically all you do is REMOVE the valve then refit???? You do not need any new parts?

It looks like in the above guide he is comparing a new and old CDV part.

yes you can simply remove the valve, or you can modify it and put back in. Modification hides the fact that you have been fiddling if that matters to you and warranty etc.

I to could not believe the difference, rev matching is easier and generally alot smoother :D

Mine is a bit notchy from 1st to 2nd, but fine in other gears. Does the CDV effect this then?

I have the exact same issue and would like to know also. Didn't know of it were syncros wearing or a CDV effect. Changing from 1st to 2nd sometimes can be really chrunchy and painful to live through.

Reading the above I decided to delete the CDV today. Car still on BMW service plan, so knocked out the insert and put the CDV back afterwards. On my MC, the nut "H" (in the linked article above) is an 11mm, not a 10mm. Did need the 10mm spanner however, to remove the skid plate so I could get access. Getting the tube over the bleed nipple was the most difficult part, the rest was easy.
The difference is very noticeable and I am sorry I did not do this a year ago already.

Hi, new on forum as I collect my first zed on the 19th aug so doing lots of research, the test drive seemed extremely smooth pulling away and changing up but this was a test drive with salesman as passenger. Is this lag only when driving the car harder? also it seems a standard mod and yet bmw fail to address it? is their a compromise by removing the restricter valve?

cheers

Best mod I ever did was to get rid of the fecking thing, It is beyond me why they fit it in the first place. :headbang:

I agree  :D

still can't quite believe it took me so long to discover the true car hidden underneath :o

i appreciate that i'm bringing this post back from the dead but i recently had my CDV removed on my 07 Plate M and replaced with the Zechausen modifed CDV. i took a few weeks for me to adjust my driving back to "normal" clutch control (ie not trying to compensate for the stupid delay) and now that i am used to it i have to say its transformed the car when stuck in the daily commute. :D

if your considering doing this i can only recommend it!
