Clutch Delay Valve (CDV)

Just thought I'd drop a quick note to say anyone thinking of changing their CDV, then do it. Just done mine today, 15min job, and huge difference straight away.

Bought the CDV from www.zeckhausen.com/BMW/Z4.htm for $30 (£approx £20), plus postage, cheapest option was £33 (£21), then as customs intercepted, £7.50 VAT & Parcel Force admin fee of £13.50. So not cheap, but part is identiacl to BMW stock item (less restrictor), so no worries with warranty, as all looks stock.

I have the old CDV valve if anyone wants it, to offset cost of buying new one. I'll drill it out if necessary.

Took 15mins to fit, and bleed up. New CDV, Done !!

Had mine removed yesterday by a local garage. I agree, quite a telling difference in gear changing without this restrictive valve. Didn't replace with a modified valve as the modified is simply a hollow piece of metal by all accounts.

X2 in recommending anyone that has yet to do this to consider.

If you remove valve completely, and car is in Warranty, the warranty will be void on clutch related issues.

Not under warranty, then yes, just remove.

If you are happy to donate the old one to me, I will modify it and put on my car as I will get around to doing it on this car as well.

srhutch is driving on my old one from my previous car :D

I did mention warranty issues/concerns in removing. Was told that if anything clutch related should occur then simply reinstall pre-inspection.

Maybe a bit underhand but ultimately, the CDV actually causes advanced wear to the clutch.

no need to drill it out either... excellent how-to from srhutch how to on here on how do it without drilling :D

Had my CDV changed to the Zeckhausen one when the car was in for a MOT earlier this year and what a difference.

I watched my Indi knock out the middle bit of the CDV with a metal punch and small mallet - I think this is what Zeckhausen do on their replacements.. Good money spinner !

Ben. The below link pretty much sums up the restrictions of a CDV.

Donate ;-) I'll donate it for £30 to offset cost of new one.

That is ok thanks ... a new one is £8.50 at the dealers, will do that if I can't get a free one passed on from another member. Mine was (and will be) free for the next member who needs one.

Hi,

Just my $0.02 - had mine fitted this week whilst getting brakes changed - it really does make a good change to the feel of the clutch.. :)

Cheers,

Nelson

I don't see the point in the mod tbh! Drove Daz's without it and it didn't find it that different...Never had an issue really...

For me it does make a difference but it's not as pronounced as some describe it. It's still worth doing though IMO and for very little cost.

Can anyone help me out with this as it's now doing my head in  Willing to pay for any assistance
