The answer seems to depend upon who you ask. As mentioned, much improved low gear changes for me :driving:
 
Did the following cars:

- 2003 2.5 SE - massive improvement
- 2004 3.0 SE - major improvement
- 2006 M - no improvement noticeable


In my experience, it was depending on the car / gearbox type. Others have reported an improvement on the M which I could not detect.
 
After 10yrs driving different manual bmw's im sort of used to it now but after I've been driving a while say after 30mins or so I do feel the clutch can be annoying. The only way to get rid of jerkiness 1st to 2nd is to release clutch very slowly. If I go for quick release or fast gear downs it can feel very boring. The E46's I had seemed to give a proper kick on changes moving up that really made you smile. Feels different on my Z4 it can be hit or miss, sometimes its great other times its not got much feedback. Its still fun but could be better is my thinking
 
Well iv had two Z4 both 3.0l my first one felt fine, but my current feels terrible between first and second, so I must get it done at some point!
 
With the age of the e85s now I'm guessing a good portion were bought second hand so there's a reasonable chance if it isn't noticeably there its already been removed by a previous owner.....

Also if you removed it and didn't notice any difference there is a possibility you removed a modified version of the cdv in which case the delete had already been done...

Apart from on an //M with the bigger hole I can't see how you wouldn't notice the difference
