Clunking when turning & Weaving

Since I've had the car it's been fairly prone to weaving quite a bit when at speed down country roads, I'm used to the feeling from my other car but never really clocked there may be something wrong until the old man drove it and pointed it out.

Another issue is has is it seems to clunk clunk clunk when turning the wheel at low speeds, it's very audible from the outside and makes everyone look at you when you're parking up.

My instinct was telling me it must either be suspension or steering rack related, anyone got any clearer idea what it may be?

On a side note, whenever I engage a gear and clutch up, the gears engage and it's quite loud, is that normal?
 
When was it MOT'd last? Clunking from the front could be anything from an iffy bearing to worn components to a shot rack. Ideally start on the simple to check cheaper options. That is checked on the MOT so if recent, you'd hope it's nothing too serious.

Check the wheelnuts are all in place and done up properly. Then, when the cars parked up, grab the front and rear of one of the front wheels and see if you can move it (as if it was steering). Then try the same thing on the top in and out. Do this on both sides. Significant movement (especially if accompanied by a noise) is an indication that all is not well. That's only a quick and dirty test. If you can, jack it up and have a look underneath for anything obviously amiss (play in the steering control arms etc)

Also, sometimes clunks can be in the rear but sound like they're in the front. Check the rear springs, they're prone to breaking. That could affect the steering and will give you clunking noises.

Whatever, safety is at stake, get it into a workshop. Indy or Dealer doesn't matter. Safety first!
