Hi all
Been a while , hope all is well guys n girls
I have a clunk from behind drivers side at rear
Sounds to me like a spring , think shocks were done on the rear from dealer I got it from
But if it’s not the spring , what else guys? It’s when you go over bumps , don’t think it’s exhaust
Hopefully someone can help with this
Thanks all

same thing happened to me a couple of weeks ago, spring broke. BMW wanted £130 supply & £190 supply/fit

I thought it was the E85/E86 that broke springs not the E89?

Anybody else had a broken E89 spring? Front / Rear Standard/MSport?

Took me six months when i first had my Zed, there was a thumping noise under the boot when only one rear wheel went over certain bumps. Even a visit to two dealers didn't fix.
My final fix was to remove the spring, wash the top and bottom rubbers, talc them and rotate the rear right spring by 45, anti-clockwise.
Noise has never come back.
I noticed that on a US forum there was quite a few in the early days with a similar problem, but no fix.

I've gone through two sets of rear springs in three years and 30k miles. First set was still on run flats and were probably originals. Had swapped to normal tires before they cracked again. On 17s on standard suspension

Literally with talcum powder, or is 'talc' a generic term using something more specialised? I would have thought talc would disappear rapidly considering where it sits?

Yes, talcum powder, but as you say it wouldn't last long. I think in this case turning the spring cured the problem. The design of the suspension is poor as it puts a side load on the spring, and we have seen the ends snap off.

My cure came about after finding an obscure BMW service bulletin from some cars long before the Zed.
They have had problems with the barrel springs gripping the rubbers and rebounding. The simple cure was talcum powder on the rubber to lube them. But i think it was the position of the spring end causing the problem.

I had a spring snap last year on the rear ,m sport suspension.
Then while fitting the new spring a drop link snapped.

Noted, it seemed, anecdotally that it was mostly e85/e86...

I have a full set of spare springs anyway..👌
