Given that the OP lives in Istanbul, I would imagine that he chose Italy for the sedate, considerate and careful driving style. Everything is relative. The Istanbul taxi drivers scrap their cars with the middle pedal untouched!

Hahaha. You are absolutely right. If one can drive in Istanbul, they can drive anywhere. Taxi's are as bad as you say too and NYC being a close second
