My O/S mirror glass fell out and shattered all over the floor! has anyone else had this? im fuming as they are £116 for a new one, would it be covered under a faulty part (mines 06 plate owned from new)

weirdly - same kind of thing happened to me this weekend .... traveling along a dual carraigeway the OS mirror started flapping like a ..... well flappy thing :wink: .... had the roof down thank goodness and lent out to grab it just as it fell off..... into my hand and safe !
 
Funnily enough a friend of my dad's was asking me if mine has done this just the other day as his glass fell out in his hand when he touched it!
 
This does seem to be fairly common on all BMW's, not just the Z4.. maybe as they have ther mirrors heated all the time.. compared to say a VW whch heats them with the rear demisters only :?

You can switch VW ones off (well you can on mine) - put the electric adjustment switch to one side rather than leaving it in the middle position. It's the middle position that switches the heated mirrors on in mine.
 
I'm not very automobile savvy but i'll assume "O/S mirror" is the driver's side.
Anyways...mine fell off 2 weeks ago while driving with the top down. I noticed the mirror shake alot and thought, oh dam somethings wrong with the engine lol. I lowered my window just a tad to reach it, then it fell off and bounced 2 or 3 times and shattered into a million pieces :cry: of course that all happened in less than 5secs or so. I was quoted at $250 for an original replacement. I ended up buying one off of ebay for $20 (free S/H). I was very pleased, it was an exact fit.

Unfortunatly not covered, it happed to me, i shut the door and smash. Got mine of ebay like everyone else. Takes alittle longer to heat up but does the job nicely.
