Close windows and/or roof with key?

Hi gang. I have had my gear shift paddles fixed, following which the car needed about 3 hours to have the coding finished (apparently). Following a fantastic long weekend over to Bruges with the roof down nearly the whole time, I have realised I can not now
A) shut the windows with the key in the lock, or the fob, if the roof is up but windows are down or
B) shut the roof with the key in the lock.
I am sure before the car was in I could do this. I have googled here and elsewhere, and it seems you can not use the fob to do this (without SmartTop or similar) but am I correct that I should be able to do this with my key in the lock? It is useful to get out of the car with the roof down sometimes or window open to ease entry/exit. I want to check before I book the car back in again with BMW for coding.

I can open the roof with the fob still, by the way. The car is a March 2012 28i.

My car built dec 2012 has this function disabled. When we collected the car the dealer tried to show us how to close the roof by putting key in driver lock and keeping it turned but nothing happened. He checked and he said they'd disabled this.

My guess is that your car software has been updated as part of the recoding resulting in this feature disappearing. How annoying! I tend to put the roof up while sitting in car anyway as they say it is better for the battery to operate the roof with the engine on. Tho that doesn't stop me using the key fob to open it before jumping in!

I wouldn't mind if the roof closing was disabled too much, but not being able to close the windows is a right pain in the backside. I coudl do this with the fob on all my previous 3 series coupes. Any other E89 feedback appreciated.

Was thinking perhaps they applied the security update (due to the key cloning stuff) but a March 2012 car would've had that from factory.

Are you 100% sure it used to work? I defo cant close the roof with the key in the lock, although not sure about windows. I agree, on other cars you can normally close the windows by holding the lock button on the fob.... I'll need to test.

If it did work, I guess perhaps the software recode is to blame. Perhaps make a fuss and ask exactly what was done as you have now LOST functionality and want to know why?

Thanks for your input. I never shut the roof, but I was fairly certain I closed the windows. The windows I would like to get back so I'll contact the dealer and report back eventually. Would be handy to know if 2013 cars have this functionality? Anyone? Cheers, Sean.

I wish they would go down the route of what Audi proposed. Build a car with everything on it, and then you just pay to update options when you feel you want them. For example, build in the heated steering wheel, and if you feel you wold ever need it, pay the £200 and have them unlock the option. Or auto folding mirrors etc, so you're not paying for all the options Ro start with, but if you feel you want it, pay to unlock it!!
