Clonking over uneven surfaces?

So my car has what can only be described as clonking whilst going over uneven/rough surfaces.
Almost like you can hear individual knocks from each corner, when it was in for new exhaust clamps the garage had a
good look over what they could on the ramps. I've checked the firewall braces and they are torqued up correctly.

The only thing obvious left that it could be possible is worn/knackered top mounts? What's the consensus on to replace these with?
OEM or after market? Considering I'm looking to sell in the new year I don't need anything massively uprated or track focused.

Cheers,

Neil.

Have you ruled out all other bushes? Top mounts are not widely know for failing. Its not to say they wont but more than likely it will be the front control arm rear bushes, drop links, rear control arm bushes, diff bushes etc.

You really need to try pinpoint the issue before speculatively replacing parts.

Hey Simon, the garage had a good look over things, the last one to check it out was quite well recommended (Autobahn in Halesowen).
It needs a service shortly anyway so I'll chuck it in again to another garage for another look at it.

Anyone got any recommendations for a garage not a million miles around the Nuneaton area?

Cheers,

Neil.

I've booked it into Garage 786 Leicester for an inspection 2, two rear tyres and to look at the clonking :)

Mine does this too, i was wondering the same the other day while driving down a bumpy road. Be interesting to see if this is just a Z4M thing or whether there is something that needs doing?

Mine has starting to do this too ,my wishbone bushes have been replaced and I've been under the car there are no other worn bushes ,I'm starting to suspect top mounts too would be interested to know what the outcome from the op

It could even be the suspension struts themselves. If you want to check the top mounts take the weight off the wheel and grab hold of the suspension and give it a wiggle, should highlight any problems.

That's my thoughts too re the damper itself, considering most dampers performance drops off with mileage/age mine at 88K are probably at the end of their useful life :headbang:

First things first, get it checked out for the simple stuff.

Neil.
