Just a quicky..........When I turn on the ignition and the mileage countdown to service pops up, Ive just started getting a clock symbol above it, I cant ind anything in the handbook about it, and I need to know! Because I'm weird like that! Hopefully someone can shed some light............?

Means a two year service is due, brake fluid and coolant (although newer models don't need coolant changes)

This the sequence,

2nd post down

It did take me a few times but it does work eventually, when the car was in for an mot i mentioned that the brake fluid needed changing but the guy checked the viscosity and was ok so no need to change.

Cheers guys, found it in the end. I would link you to the thread I used but tapatalking appear to have moved/hidden/deleted the "copy URL" button. Found it in general info & guides though. Took 5mins!

I wouldn't be so sure. The fluid may be OK from a mot/highway safety standpoint. The reason to change fluid once in a while is also that it absorbs dirt and moisture. This has long term implications with ABS systems. If BMW says change the fluid every two years, I would do it regardless what the mot guy says. You do not want excess dirt and moisture in your ABS system.

Would you not change your motor oil thats full of dirt and water just because the viscosity is still OK? Even though it's scheduled to be changed?

I hear what your saying but i've been using the same guy to service all of mine and the GF's cars for the last 12 years, and he's not one for doing work just for the sake of it so i trust him.

My Silver Grey Z4 was last serviced in: Oct 2010 (11,650km on the odometer)

Since I got her about 9 months ago, when she starts up, if I press the right toggle button on the dash, it shows that:
* by KM: there are about 20000km to go until the next service, and that,
* by TIME, the next service is due in: March 2012.

We are now April 2012 (with 15,500km on the odometer) ... past the March date ... but the CLOCK symbol has not appeared yet.

Why does it say service due in March 2012, but the clock symbol does not appear in the dashboard?

And when should I have it serviced? Now, or at 2 years ... (i.e. Oct 2012)?

The clock symbol indicates the 24month service. Note - this is different to inspection 1 & 2 services.

I'm not totally sure, but I believe you should have the brake fluid changed every 24months and then an inspection also every 24months, unless you cover the miles first. And then the inspection 1 & 2 services alternate.
