Climate control/AC light question

Living in phoenix, I'm not sure if this is normal behavior and want to get it fixed if it's not (while the warranty is in effect for the next 2 months).

When I turn the heat on with the temperate set using the auto/climate control setting, the light on the AC button is always illuminated regardless of whether or not I need heat or AC. So if it's 40 degrees outside and I have the climate control set to 80 degrees, the AC light still comes on! Is this normal? The dealer says it is, but that doesn't seem to make sense to me. THANKS!!!

happens on mine, the air con comes on automatically whenever i turn the climate control "auto" function on, if you push the air con button again it should go off. The air conditioning unit will still be running when the air con is on whether hot or cold, it is still functioning as it removes moisture from the air (stops the car from steaming up)

Thanks! I thought it might be something like that and don't trust the dealer over the phone. So it's great to get confirmation from other owners :-) Of course it was 85 in Phoenix today so I think I'll start need that AC!

Yep, if you turn the auto on and off, the AC light will come on. Just press it and you're good.

(wish it were 85 here--32 and snowing. I live in the South, dang it! :x )

The air conditioning comes on for a reason. The correct method to condition the air is to chill it, to remove excessive moisture, then heat it back up to the desired temperature, if required.

This ensures that you get air at the desired temperature, with little or no moisture in it, which is much better for the electronics in the car.

Whether the desired air temperature is above or below ambient (outside) makes no difference, you still want dry air, to keep the windows clear of mist better for example.
