Clicking sound from wheels/under car somewhere...

So yes its the wheel bearing. Its been into Williams today for diagnosis. Good news is its covered under insured warranty, including diagnostic cost. Bad news is they don't have the part in and I've got to take it back next week. Sigh. Still at least its getting done. I'll be sure to ask them why its failed at such low miles tho! Bloody BMW reliability..

So car goes into Williams Manchester today. The service chap tells me he's no record of a diagnosis being performed, only my report of a noise from the wheel. My blood pressure goes up. So I tell them I'd been told it WAS the wheel bearing, and that a part would be ordered. He confirms at least the part was ordered. I said OK, then I'll leave it with you on the understanding that you'll be replacing the bearing/hub. I double and triple checked this with him and that the wheel I knew it to be was indeed the one they had on file.

It just felt all so 'maybe' when I'd been told it 'was'. Really annoyed me. Hopefully they'll replace it, as the claim has already been made on the insured warranty.

Appalling - why did he think they had ordered the part if they hadn't carried out the diagnostic check, just on the off-chance that somebody might want one? Hope it all turns out OK.
I'm pretty lucky with dealers down here in sleepy Somerset - unless you want to visit them after lunch on Saturdays or any time Sunday - but even so when my wife collected her new 118i a couple of months ago I found one of the tyres had zero air pressure, one had half the correct level and the other two were about 10lbs over.
By the way it was v good of you to disrupt your Sunday to have a look at the Jags, I appreciate your comments. Hopefully you had a better dealer experience there than this morning.
Tony

That's the thing. Surely you wouldn't order a part that costs a few hundred quid on the back of a maybe. Clearly someone hasn't done the correct paperwork. As good as the dealer has been with me in the past, they seem to be going down a bit in my opinion. I may try the Stockport dealer in future (Also Williams!), just a bit further away.

On a more positive note, I have a loaner (well, £13 a day) 520D saloon, in space grey M Sport, looks gorgeous and is smooth as glass to drive. Want one.

So it gets worse... Williams have replaced the hub/bearing. All done, going to collect this afternoon. "After you pay £250 insured warranty excess Sir". I stop, and say 'What?'

I took the car in for diagnosis on the 30th of August, two days before the warranty at £0 excess expired and I renewed the policy with a £250 excess. At the time, I spoke with one of their service team who informed me that so long as the claim was placed on the 30th, which it was in the end, I'd pay £0. As it turns out, this person has now left! I have only this verbal assurance of the cost, and, Williams now want £250. Annoyed... Yet another battle. How can they identify the issue (ish) and order the part and then dependent on when they can fit me in, expect me to pay the new excess....

At least it's done and hopefully has resolved the issue but why is there always a sting in the tail?
I think you've got a cast iron case if that is the wording in your warranty but as they claimed to have no record of your diagnostic check on the 30th and the guy you dealt with has subsequently left they may take some convincing.
Best of luck

Just a further thought on this, I presume the dealer will claim it's between you and the warranty insurers, or " nothing to do with us guv" to use the proper legal terminology

I'll see later. As this is a BMW Insured Warranty, the dealer should take care of this. As far as I am concerned the car was diagnosed inside the original insured period, and parts ordered. If it took a month or two months for the part to arrive, it should still be honoured.

So... we're back. Just taken the car for a run and the clicking seems to have gone. I'll keep an eye on it.

I could feel the heat from my thunderous looking face as I arrived at the dealership. I'd already sent an uncompromising email before I'd left the office, they were in no doubt how I felt about todays events.

All the staff knew who I was and what I was there for so they started work on getting my car ready while I waited for the chap I had been dealing with. He arrived and stated quietly that BMW Insurance had waived the excess, that the car had been repaired and was ready for me. It all went very, very quietly and politely. They also halved the cost of the loan car. So all in all I paid £18.

I'll leave myself to cool off a bit before I make any judgement about the stress I felt today.

Hopefully alls well that ends well, but why should you have to go through that anguish and stress in the first place. It's tough being a customer these days.

I know from other posts you have decided to keep your Z4 for the time being but if/when change time comes Im guessing this sort exprience is going to make you look elsewhere ie not BMW. Its very sad really
