clearance issue after lowering.

not really an issue as such. my car just seems to make a strange sound over speedhumps in work after i lowered it.

i measured the clearance and the front bumper has 95mm whereas the rear flap bits infront of the rear wheels only give 75mm.

my question is, can those flappy hanging down bits be removed? what do they actually do?

i would say they are mud guards. and prob best to remove then letting them get ripped off!!
 
i'm not 100% certain it's those but the noise definitely comes just before the rear wheels hit the speedhump.

and yes, i would like to keep them rather than lose them :(
 
They are like mud guards - probably designed to deflect larger than average debris and excess water from the front wheels away from the rear ? Mine - not an ///M bumper - has them beneath the bumper in front of the front wheels too - they hang down from what is called the air duct on realoem, though it actually forms the bottom and inside cover of the lower space behind the lights on the standard Z.
 
They are not mud guards but aero spoilers they reduce the amount of air hitting the wheel reducing uplift by pushing the air around the side of the wheel face, that air then creates a negative pressure on the outboard wheel face which then pulls the air rushing down the side of car closer thus reducing drag. It's only about 10 or so counts so you probably would not notice on normal roads under normal conditions if they were not there.
 
I work on the basis that they will wear down to a point when they no longer scrape on stuff.Simples.

Also, if you have positively identified a noise as 'cosmetic', eventually the involuntary flinching every time you hear it stops after a while :thumbsup:
