Clear light and Angel Eye Conversion - The Project and Story

Well one of my ccfl rings has died already and can only fine one decent set on eBay of the LED ones and that seller has let me down before. Don't suppose anyone has a set of LED rings for sale do they?

Hand up

But these have the metal finish at the top. However you can either remove this or the CCFL tube and swap over the plastic holder you already have

PS Saying that... I would now go the LED route as they are much brighter, much whiter, less brittle, full circle of light and a longer life

Spare CCFL angels

How do I achieve this look on my M with standard Xenons? The 'sidelight' circle looks a bit pants, would it be quite easy and cheap??

SMD led's will die slowly one by one , it happened to two cars i've did before ,they have lasted about a year on both cars ,now they look terrible

i'm also had them on my tt for few months until i've replaced whit ccfl's

Hmm not sure about that - all the reviews that I read stated LED had a longer life span - guess it just boils down to luck

This was the general message coming from the bimmer forums

"In General the CCFL have a shorter life span... but that life span is generally still a few years. They are also cheaper than the leds and as they are solid there will be no gaps in the lights.

The led's are brighter longer lasting and a lil less technical in terms of the ballast and what not. To the naked eye the newer led kits have not gap. As a poster said you will only see gaps if you walk right up to the lights. Just check the pic posts on here with all the guys who have installed leds.

I personally choose the leds for my car. I consider them a bit more reliable. A number of people have reported ballast failures so i decided to steer clear especially as i don't live in the States and shipping takes forever."

Because I'm a complete wuss, the risk of failure was why I didn't fit any form of AEs to my car. Having done the long winded cut'n'shut of two sets of light, I have no intention of ever doing it again!

the basalt are £4 and you can buy them in uk,it's much simpler to replace them ,than replace failed led rings :)

I've always gone the ccfl route, on my old E39 I went through 3 sets in 18 months, of varrying cost and quality, both rings and ballasts, and also found replacement rings to be a different colour temp. And now this set on my Z has blown a ring i dont fancy another colour issue. My experience with LED tech thus far has been good so I'm going to bite the bullit. Even though its looking like a £80 sized bullit with express shipping from the states. Don't trust the standard shipping even though it would almost half the cost, the "we are not responsible for the item once it has shipped" comment swung it and at least I can track them every step so I know when to expect delivery.
I'm opting for these http://www.superbrightleds.com/moreinfo/led-headlight-accent-lights/led-angel-eye-headlight-accent-lights-with-t3-14-adapter/878/ anyone had any dealings with these guys? They have cheaper options but with fewer LED's and I want a nice loop of light

I also plan on wiring up so the AE spark up when I unlock the car and ccfl's take time to warm up and LED's dont

Yep they are the LED I used to replace my CCFL's

White in colour compared to the blueish CCFL so they match up with my xenons

Nice one  they ok to deal with I take it, no issues? I'm fed up of being messed around by Internet sellers.

I didn't bother with the extra relay wiring that came in the box, I just hooked them up to my sidelights - the only issue I had we're dodgy wiring (I got the drivers side wiring back to front)

Been running fine for 5+ months

I had led ae's on my e46

You won't be disappointed they are so much better than ccfl's

I had them fitted for two years with no issues at all with them

I wish I had kept them so I could fit them two the zed but I sold them on ebay :(

They were umnitzas, here is a pic

Umnitza is the company that makes them, the type they are Orion v2

Umnitza is a company in the US and make loads of different bits but a lot of people regard there ae to be the best

And after having a set you can see why, compared with the ebay £30 rubbish they are worlds apart

Lifetime guarantee etc.

Before I bought mine I asked how long they would last, I was told if I put them on a new car they would outlast the car lol true or not I don know but mine were as good when why came off as when they went on
