Clear light and Angel Eye Conversion - The Project and Story

Hey guys i know this post is very old now.. Was just wondering, I realize people say you can't use a heat gun or an oven to get the lights apart.. but did anyone ever try using a blow torch? :) lol. ie round the edge on the glass to heat up where the glass meats the adhesive and pull apart? :D maybe i'm just being completely ridiculous, just haven't seen anyone as crazy as me to bring it up as a suggestion haha. I want to de tango my zed, and I really don't want to end up ruining my lights by cutting them. :)

Old BMW's thad thermal adhesive that was easy to melt. Rest assured that Zeds cannot be opened this way. I've even had sprips of the silicone type adhesive on the becn and been unable to melt it at all. Best I can do is char it. In any event the 'glass' as you call it is plastic and will melt way before the adhesive.

Cutting up with a Dremel with a heavy duty disk goes quite quickly and not that difficult (though extremely stressfull). And if you want to be sure the lights don't open again, you could try using two component glue, I have been told that is what Stealers use as well in similar repairs and as it hardens, it becomes just as strong as the original glue... Dunno where to get that type of glue though :-)

Silicone is fine for the job, and easy to reopen if needed.

Trust me, sometimes you need to go back in. I've opened mine 3 times now.

Postie came with gifts, can't wait to get them in now

I would always use clear silicone to reseal. It's 100% waterproof and as stated can be cut open with a knife if you need to get back in.

Go back tot he start of this thread an see how long ago I did mine. Never the slightest misting or issue after years of use :)

EDIT - Just looked February 2008 !!

Bradd-pitt 2 part glue is just araldite or an epoxy resin, but yea I wouldn't want to risk using that because once thats cured theres no turning back :). Silicon sealer sounds like the way in that case. I see theres a lot of chat about which size of AE's to use, plus changing the irn-bru coloured indicators looks to be a bit of a faff. My issue is that if i decide to do this. I would need to get it done in a day cos I use my car on a daily basis :). I think my hockey sticks are pure orange.. not clear in the slightest heh.

Which size and brand are those AE's then m8? 80mm?

i want to do that to mine but i've just sorted out the misting up problem so i highly doubt i'll be opening them back up anytime soon :(

Strangely enough mine didn't mist up once after adding the AE's. I think 99% of the problems are the rear doors.
