Clear light and Angel Eye Conversion - The Project and Story

Well after two days of working on them (on and off) my headlights have gone from this

With a bit of work

I'm very pleased with the overall look now and it's taken years off the cars age.

Will have to have the bumper off again soon though as the passenger light has fully misted up.

I will also be adding angel eyes at some point.

very nice! Black inners work well on a black car the clear hockey sticks set it off nicely... top job! btw I still have a tiny bit of condensation forming now and then. I am thinking of creating a tube connected to a bag on one end and place the bag over the front of a dehumidifier unit I have, connecting the tube up to one of the breather holes and leaving on for a few hours.... may or may not work but worth a try?

Awesome!
Im sure its been said previously but would anyone that's successfully done this consider doing this for cash for other forum members? (Pretty please)

Oh meant to say Shane your chrome inners will be posted this week, may be Thursday as I'm in Belgium for work until late Wednesday night. They are in perfect order, made sure I looked after them.

Well luckily I had time today to get the bumper and lights off again today, glad I did as the amount of water in the one that had misted up was crazy and the xenon had stopped working! :(

The ballast was full of water, after drying the ballast and the headlight out and adding some more sealant to the join and rear door all is working again. Hopefully it will not mist up again, I think I hadn't put the rear door back on properly.

Have to say I'm in no rush to fit angel eyes (although I'm sure I will) Or do any for anyone else. Sorry.

I need an M bumper too  but SWMBO will have something to say about that, spent too much recently.

How did you find it re cutting them open again?

Those ae's look epic! Need to do that to mine.

Cutting them back open is so much easier when it's just sealant, rather than plastic. Takes about 5 mins.

That's good to hear, does it take long to clean off the old sealant? Now I'm going to have to get AE

From experience;

Use a good strong stanley knife.
Cleaning the old sealant can take a long time, but is needed. I've done it twice in 4 days.
Halfords sell a quick drying black adhesive sealant that seems to work well.
Use the highest temp glue you can for AE's. Glue gun glue melts with high beams.

Thanks

Re-split one of my headlamps because I had water inside it, dried it out and re-sealed it and it's misted up around the clear indicator part! I also changed the rear door to another one I had from a donor light.

At least theres no water in it this time.

Dont worry ben, they always seem to get a little misting after opening, but clear totally in a few days. If it doesn't, its not sealed right.

Hey guys i know this post is very old now.. Was just wondering, I realize people say you can't use a heat gun or an oven to get the lights apart.. but did anyone ever try using a blow torch? :) lol. ie round the edge on the glass to heat up where the glass meats the adhesive and pull apart? :D maybe i'm just being completely ridiculous, just haven't seen anyone as crazy as me to bring it up as a suggestion haha. I want to de tango my zed, and I really don't want to end up ruining my lights by cutting them. :)

I wouldn't, my Dremel disc heat melted bits in places. It's not that hard just take your time
