Depends. If you like projects and are doing something for the looks and enjoyment, nothing wrong with spending some cash on it. I've decided to keep my car for a while, so I'm not too fussed about spending cash on it.

I don't mind spending money either and I'd be happy to pay any price that had a 3 followed by 2 other numbers. However, most clear lights now seem to be advertised at between £600 - £1000. I just can't get my head around who buys halogens in particular at those prices.

Anyway, it's all beside the point. I'm scouring all the foreign ebay sites. Is there any issue with buying lights from other countries with regards to the parts? I'd probably just be using the hockey sticks to go into my existing lights but it would be good to know what if anything else is usable.
 
I'm not doubting that some sellers ask silly money but do they really sell at £600? I've seen quite a few clear indicator lights on here go for £120 ish a pop over the past year or so. Often they have a broken bracket or something internal has broken but seeing as the cut'n'shut technique only requires harvesting the lense and clear indicator, it's no big deal. My conversion cost ~£260 all in and is easily the best mod I've made in terms of visual impact.
 
I'm not sure who pays those prices but how else would the prices get to that point? Unless it's just a case of all current sellers are mental. Quite a few sets on German ebay at that kind of price. People actually trying to sell individual lights at $1000 on US ebay and only 1 clear black internal light on UK ebay at £399 for a single light.

I guess it's a mod that favours the patient as no bloody way would i pay any of those prices.
 
Plenty of people hold out for ridiculous prices on all sorts of things. All I can do is repeat that your target price should be £200 - £250 a pair. I had to wait 6 months until a pair came up on here that weren't snaffled up before I could PM the bloke but I got them for £230 delivered. :)

I'm in the process of cutting open my lights at the moment, can't wait to get them finished.

I've sourced all the parts I need so i'm luckily not having to chop open my own xenons, they can go back on the car when I sell it. Total spend has been less than £300 for all parts, including a donor set of xenons - All bought within the last 6 months, so bargains are still to be had if you look in the right place.

Bradders your car looks really good, great improvement!

I can't speak for the guy above but this was the one problem area of my conversion.

The guy who sold me the clear headlights (a forum member) neglected to point out that only one of them had a facelift indicator housing i.e. with the amber capsules that you can mirror tint. :roll: This meant I was stuck with using pre-facelift indicator housings. The options to flash amber were therefore to use orange tinted bulbs (tinted with paint) or LEDs. The LEDs I tried threw errors despite being CANbus ready and I wasn't prepared to fit ruddy great load resistors to compensate. The bulb paint really struggled to cope with a 21W BAY9S bulb and so things were looking grim. Thankfully, a mate suggested using Kapton tape which was inspired and has worked perfectly. Unfortunately, the amber coloured tape is visible but still a vast improvement on the gingercators!
