Hello!

I'm looking at getting my car nice and clean for spring:

My questions are:

- Are these products good?
- Is this suitable for someone as noobie as me?
- Is this all I should need? (I literally have nothing else except maybe a bucket and sponge)

The AG clay kit is good i used mine this weekend. Just make sure the car is very clean at the start.

Personally, I prefer the Gliptone liquid leather range for leather care

Wax is a very personal choice, I like the old standard of Collenite 476 but have started to move over to using something like Gtechniq Silio Seal - but you can layer wax over this if you wish

- Only big no-no in your post is the mention of a sponge... it may have been tongue-in-cheek but, if it wasn't, get a washmitt, a microfibre one is fine

My wheels I'll just wash at the end with shampoo or something.

Does this look good? And in the right order? This seems to have lots of sponges etc in it which I can use:

Will I need any other things? Brushes for rubbing roof etc? Sorry for questions, I've read some other threads but I get a bit lost as they don't seem to tell the entire story

You could also use Tardis (to get rid of tar spots) and Iron X (to winkle out tiny ferrous particles) on the paintwork prior to claying - will condition the paint even more, and make your clay last longer.

After the Scratch X you may also want to use a polish or prep (like Dodo Juice Lime Prime) prior to waxing - helps ensure the paint is very clean and smooth so the wax adheres as well as possible. Oh, and 2 coats of wax is always better than 1

Thanks! I think I'm going to go ahead and order all this soon along with a pack of 10 microfiber cloths as well and a scrubbing brush for roof + interior mats. Not really sure about best technique etc, but will read labels carefully and watch a couple of videos beforehand.

I'll do some before/after shots when I do it! Quite looking forward to giving it a proper clean It looked great after a jetwash (there's a good place near me everyone takes their BMW's to) so hopefully will look even better after this.

Anyone got a recommendation for scrubbing brush? Something like this OK for roof?

Don't use a sticky roller for the roof, use one of those two way clothes brushes. Much better and re usable.

I always do the wheels first but I don't use a wash mitt - use a pressure washer to get rid of the surface muck, then spray the wheels with something like Bilberry or Surfex HD, let it dwell for 10 mins or so to loosen all the brake dust etc., agitate with wheel brushes ensuring that you get into all the nooks and crannies and then pressure wash again and they should come up well

If necessary, you can add another spray\dwell\jetwash stage in there using Iron-X but you shouldn't need that every wash

It's also worth doing a proper, wheels-off, deep clean a couple of times a year and add some protection - either waxing the wheels with a few coats of something like Poorboys or using one of the nanotech coatings like Gtechniq C5 wheel armour

If anyone is after microfibre cloths, these have been recommended over on Detailing World - apparently they're not the world's best but are perfectly adequate and at a price where you can throw them away after a few uses

The thing I've linked has a certain "resistance" to it and will pull things out very well.

If you've used one before, you'll know how it works, if not, it's basically two way fabric, one way is rough, one was is smooth. The rub with the rough side and it picks up any dirt etc, then with your finger, just push the smooth way and it all comes off and it's clean again. I use it on clothes etc, but it's pretty good for the roof.

There's nothing wrong with a lint roller, I just felt this was far better.

if your going to do a massive order or stuff get onto perfectlycleaned.co.uk and see what kind of deal they will do you. it worked for me!

costco also do a nice dual pack of microfibre wash mits and sponges with that bug remover mesh stuff on one side. i working though a pack of the yellow cloths too. it just never seems to run out.
