just ordered that maguiars set. Seemed like a good place to start with a bit of everything, until I get the hang of things :D . Bought through amazon though as cheaper than through their site

Having posted the link to the kit I haven't even got into detailing myself yet, so I'd be interested to hear how the kit is and how you get on

Nicely found on Amazon.

the two buckt thing mate - whats all that about ?!
One bucket has clean soapy water, the other bucket is for rinsing the mitt. It stops you rubbing grit that you've removed from the car all over the bodywork. At least that's how I understand it, I don't use a grit guard, just two buckets.

pretty much it, stops you rubbing all the s**t youve just taken off your car back on it and scratching it up.

I have a few mits too so i change them over lots.

At the least I would recommend the two buckets as said, plus two mitts. One for the lower parts and one for the upper panels basically anything above the arch-line. The whole ethos is to minimise any scratching, marring and contamination.

Time, money and effort spent on washing properly saves a hell a lot of time and effort on removing swirls, scratches and generally sorting out the paintwork. Good quality shampoo, 2 buckets, grit guard in the rinse bucket and good quality MF wash mitts. Only wash 1 panel at a time and the only place the wash mitt goes after touching the car is in the rinse bucket. The wash mitts go in the washing machine after every car wash. Do that and you will spend less time sorting out the paintwork. I know people have their favorite products but you will not go wrong buying anything with the Meguairs label.

I agree on using a different mit for the lower section of the car, the sills, wheel arches and front skirt. I have a megs MF one for the rest of the car.

x1 on Megs stuff - the tyre endurance smells lush.

Half Colin - Poorboys Blackhole is brill on black, lovely deep finish - you tried it?

Best recent discoveries - demon shine  megs water magnet

cheers chaps - all points understood and taken on board

I'll see how I get on with this megs stuff and then maybe get into some of the more 'specialised' stuff.

amazon dispatched the megs kit today (megs site said up to 14 days delivery .... so glad I went to amazon)

After doing a 250 round trip last weekend to London for a stag do the zed is looking a bit grubby!!
