Cleaning out cameras and thinking of a new one...

I didn't want to jump into CJ's post about a new camera but... I'm thinking of a new one too. The problem is I just emptied my Dad's house (he's now in a seniors lodge , not dead !). As a Fellow of the Royal Photographic Society for about a million years you can imagine the stuff I found. Mostly Pentax with a few odds and sods thrown in just to make it interesting.
I have to clear out a ton of film cameras: Pentax PZ-7, a PZ-30, a P-30, an LX with all the attachments, an ME, a Yashica-mat with zoom lenses, a Rapid Omega, and a pile of pocket cameras. He also had a about half a dozen pocket digitals and a Pentax *istD and of course, about 8 or 9 decent lenses. I also have to get rid of an old Pentax SF-1 with two lenses, my Bronica setup, about 4 flash units and a Kodak #3 ( I think it's a #3) in great condition with a box of the glass slides it took. He even had a Kodak Instamatic Reflex with interchangeable lenses. I think I found a High School Art Dept to take his darkroom equipment. I already chucked a pile of stuff in the bin and now have a table covered in filters, hotshoes and every other thing imaginable.

So the question is...where do I go from here if I want a new camera. I currently use a couple of Lumix digitals and a waterproof Canon pocket unit....but they just don't cut it for anything other than "snapshots". I've read reviews on the *istD and it didn't appear to be too great. Bearing in mind that I have a sackful of decent Pentax lenses what's the opinion of the pro's on here....sell it all and go to something else or stick with the Pentax lenses and get a new body to use them with..??

What a find
Are the Pentax lens digital if so may be worth getting an current Pentax body. If not may need a rethink, old non digital lens rarely work as well as the latest technology

Some of these lenses are from the age when digital meant counting on your fingers. (SMC Takumar etc) A few are auto focus and the best ones are not ..
What is the difference ...I thought the focal distance to the light sensors that replace the film plane was slightly different but that's about it. ??? I like the feel of those old Takumars, nice and smooth to focus and adjust, a bit heavy though.

Digital lenses are designed to straighten out the light, so that it falls perpendicular on to the sensor.
This is not such a problem with telephoto lenses - so you can use a tele lens on a digital body quite satisfactorily.
Depends on the age of the lens - but the metering may not work with the digital body.

I think I read something like that once, now it makes a bit more sense. The light hits the sensors at a sharper angle in the shorter non-digital lenses so they don't work as well, got it.
So I have a couple of decent tele lenses but the rest must go. Maybe it's time to switch to a Canon or ???? I'll use the Px *istD for a while until I figure out exactly what I want.

Thanks

I get a $1000 retirement gift that I can pick myself so if I go as planned in August that would be the time to find a good one.
