Cleaning inside of washer bottle and filters E85

Great guide, just washed mine out - it wasn't bad after all, when I came too it I think the main reason my newly acquired z4 washers were weak was because the reservoir was almost empty.

I have a question about reassembly, it seems to be back where it was and the bolt in place, but it can swing about a little. I can't rememember whether it had this amount of movement before. Is it supposed to clip in somehow at the bottom?

My screenwash is leaking out where the clip is on this picture

the connector on the pump wiggles about a bit when connected into this clip. Is it likely to be the clip or the pump that needs replacing ?

The filters in theribs pics, where can i buy them as i've just looked at mine and the filters aren't even there :!:

You should be able to get the part numbers from here:- http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showparts?id=BT52-EUR-12-2003-E85-BMW-Z4_30i&diagId=61_1084

I did a search for a December 03 3.0i, but I doubt they are any different on most models. If you wanted to be sure you could go to their homepage and put in the last 7 characters of your VIN.

Well, resurrection of an old thread, but that's the beauty of the mass of useful resources on here. Just followed the OP guide with my E85. The filter was just like the photo on here, coated in a slimy black gunge. Cleaned with an old toothbrush and also managed to clean out a lot of gunge from the water reservoir itself, but I do need to do a proper job with some degreaser at some point. However, I now have the jets spraying on to the windscreen again, which is a bonus lol.

Just another suggestion on cleaning "odd" things like this -- user a Water Pik! I have one that I use just for cleaning (i.e. dishwasher metal filter mesh) and it seems funny but works great!

Sorry to bump an old thread
Feel like a daftie here & struggling to remove the actual washer bottle.
Can it be removed without taking the wheel off?

I can unscrew the bolt and disconnect the 2 electrical bits but i camt get the bottle out.
Its rhd 3.0si 08 plate.
Problem i have is the lid seems to get caught on part of the bonnet housing.
There's a thick pipe that ive tried pushing to the side but still cant get the waher bottle out. Its as if its needs to move a few mm to clear the bonnet housing but just cant manage it.
Not the most motor savvy and worried about breaking something.
Any tips or advice would be appreciated
Wiper jets stopped spraying. Wanted to check the filter first, then fuses before getting new spray jets
Appreciate any advice and tips
Thanks & all the best

I can't remember exactly how but wiggling the reservoir about I have removed them from two E86s without breaking anything.

Hopefully someone who has done it more recently can be more specific!

Thanks MT

Managed to get a bit further along but looks like there's another pipe heading towards the headlights. Its a coupe but doesnt have headlight washers, that seems to be whats preventing the reservoir bottle coming out
Does that hose connected to other electrical fitting on the washer bottle just pull out or is there a knack to it?

As far as I know all 3 litre models sold in the UK had headlight washers, so there will be two pumps each with connected wiring and piping. All 3 of my Coupes had headlight washers.

Thanks guys 👌
Wee update;
Got the pump out and cleaned the filter and managed to get the reservoir fairly clean, no gunk in it now
Both jets still aren't spraying🙈

When i turn my wipers on and pull the lever that should spray the windscreen, it makes a noise once but nothing comes out the spray jets

When i pull again there's no noise

Should kick in or make noise multiple times i would think 🤔

Is it likely to be the 2 x 30 amp fuses? the actual pump?(looks very clean now and also blew through it when dismantled and clean and air passed through) or something else?🤷🏻‍♂️🙈

Appreciate any pointers and advice🙏

If you can hear the pump making a noise it can't be a blown fuse. If it doesn't make a noise next time I think you may have cleaned the headlamp washer pump filter as they only operate every 5th time (IIRC) you use the screen washers.

Pull the other pump out and clean that filter.
