Cleaning behind the indicators

Possibly only noticeable on a white car, but there is always a line of grime around the indicators. I popped one off for an investigation and... well:

Gave the area a good clean, but it is virtually impossible to put them back in properly.

Does anyone else do this, or do I have issues?

Yep I cleaned mine when I took them out but I replaced them with LCI ones. Why can't you put them back properly? I can't see any reason why they won't go back in correctly unless one of the tabs has broken off.

There are two clips, seems impossible to fully engage the back clip.

It is now possible to detach the indicators just by pulling them from the exterior of the car, rather than releasing the tab from inside the bonnet.

Car is being MOT’d soon, I will ask them to sort it out!

Cleaning behind the indicators? That’s a slippery slope, how clean is the alternator? Or the engine block?

Haha, there is a visible line of black stuff which always bothered me after giving it a good wash.

Engine bay is kept reasonably clean-ish.

That visible line around the indicators I would have thought you would be able to clean it out with a detailing brush during a wash without needing to remove the indicators.
