Clean the HVAC system?

The other night I was out to dinner with some friends. I parked with my top down as I often do. When I returned from dinner, I noticed that someone had crushed a Bud Light can between the dashboard and windshield. The dashboard got a little ripped up, but the real problem is that crappy beer got into the vent. The next couple of times I started the car, foamy beer spritzed out of the heat vent (right under the key slot, where your right knee would rest). Although the flow of beer has stopped, the smell of stale beer is prevalent.

Does anyone have any experience with cleaning these vents out? I'm considering pouring a diluted cleaning solution down the same spot, then blasting the heat to get it out.

I know from my days of owning a VW, the dealer offered an AC service including an air fresherner/disinfectent that they put in the vents. Might be worth dropping in to your nearest to see if they sell a kit for cleaning them yourself. The worst they can say is no.

You can buy a little aerosol of air con sanitiser from various sources including Amazon,Ebay etc and its simply a matter of putting the air con into cold mode and placing the aerosol can in the footwell, once the aerosol is triggered it mists its contents into the car which gets drawn into the system and sanitises as it goes. Obviously you cant be in the car when this is happening but it only takes ten minutes or so.Hope this helps.
