Clean Tailpipe.

I hate the way my tailpipe is always dirty when my car is clean. I want it sparkling! I was going to use autoglyms metal polish on it until somebody told me that it will take a layer of lacquer off.

How would i go about cleaning it?
The person who told me this recons that its ''galvanised steel'

Mine is stainless steel, and I use Autosol on it. Comes up a treat.
Any pics of the tailpipe in question?
Also, have you thought of getting some tips from Monkey? pm Machine Monkey on here, or read his thread here

When i first got my car the tailpipes had some really tough built up carbon deposits which i removed using a piece of scotch and metal polish. Now after each wash i just grab any bodywork polish i can lay my hands on first, t-cut, meguiars polish etc, and give them a the once over with that (literally 30 secs), they always look clean and shiny

Thanks for the plug Mark

The tips one the e85-86 are chrome plated and should be ok the ones for the e89 seem to have a matte finish and i am not sure about them. You should be ok using a metal polish i have a polishing mop hear at work witch works really well. If you post a picture we will be able to help out better.

is there a way to get them off, to clean between them?
On my 06 3.0si they just knock off, just give them a light tap with a hammer from the back, there are bent spring clips which hold them in place.:D
